Shared hosting for multiple Large database sites or Virtual or Dedicated?

To all who have multiple, large Community driven Content sites:

My question is about hosting packages. Are using on shared server to host all your sites or do you get a new shared server for each of your websites. Are you using dedicated, Virtual or cloud servers at all and/or have you researched them? What are the pros and cons?

I already have a fairly decent community forum site I plan to focus principles that will allow it to grow a great deal in short time. Also I plan to create several other community site of interest to me that should be able to set up so providing passive income. I do not think it is a good Idea to put these all on one shared server. I am considering rackspace Cloud sites, but fairly expensive. I am willing and able to cover this cost, if this is the best option for my needs. Can I get some input on what would be my best options? Thanks so much!

    First, there is no point getting a new shared hosting package for each of your sites. Because more than likely even if you host 10 website within one hosting package, all 10 sites will be on different servers anyways. Each of the servers will have 49 other websites being hosted there as well.

    The best thing to get is when you're trying to run multiple websites is a virtual dedicated server. For the price it is well worth it. I had a client that was trying to run a community website on a shared platform, I made them move to a virtual dedicated and wow what a difference. The site has about 1000 members last I checked and it is running smooth. If it ever gets really big we can always switch to full dedicated.

      Thanks for the info. This is what I thought! I have been studying Rackspace cloud sites and think it is better than virtual server option. Have you or other check this option out? Considering I have near 3k on my one community site, and have the desire to make similiar community site, I think this maybe best option.

      Another question I have, is if I do go to virtual or rackspace cloud site, will I be able to keep each site separate from each other so that all are primary domains and not under one primary domain? Thans for the info.

    Rackspace is very good, however it is expensive. Amazon S3 is cheap! It is a Worldwide Storage Platform. I would suggest talking to your internet service host about your options. I simply upgraded to a business server and the speed increase was tremendous. The cloud is "the Nutz" when serving up secure video otherwise use Youtube for the Link Juice.
