No Dates On Blog Posts - Why?

Hi folks,

I've noticed at least 3 highly-commented (as in lots of comments) blogs without
dates on any of their posts. As in you wouldn't know when that blog entry was
made, although the dates on the comments can maybe give you an idea.

I really wonder why, or for what benefit. Have you tried and what results occur?

Just thought I'd ask here as it's something making me curious enough to try also,
though I'd like an idea of what I'm possibly getting myself into. Thanks.

    I've seen others do this as well (for sure one pretty successful guy in the fitness industry).

    I've been subscribed to his list for a few years now (don't know why, I can see through his IM techniques, and most stuff he publishes I don't like - but hey sometimes I learn something new), and articles he links to in the email come up regularly. Now these articles don't have dates on them.

    The only reason I can think of for him doing this is for the news users that sign up to his list. He can get away sending these articles out (maybe every couple months), and the new list users just see an article with loads of comments, and maybe think "ooooh, new article with loads of comments, must be popular, i might get suckered in to whatever he's selling".

    Here is one reason to do it:

    To make each blog post, look like an actual website page. In wordpress, you can have the date, author, etc on each page. I remove that stuff from the code, so it looks more like a website page, but sometimes keep the comment options in the code.

    So, benefit? Depending on the person, it could look better or more "official" being a page and not just a post.

      I would agree with this. It has a lot to do with the strategy of the website. If you're doing something that's time-based, you would want to keep those dates visible.

      I suppose adding pages would be the best alternative others. It's all a matter of preference!

    I agree with that as well. If you want to show how often you update, time-based, or want to build a history, it would be best to keep the dates. All, as said, depends on what your strategy is.

    Sometimes when I am searching some rare information, And I finally find something, if I see that is old (because of its date), I move on, I know that the information could be good at any time, but only because it shows an old date, I just leave the post/page.

    Instead of leaving the date, thats why some bloggers keep the date feature off, in order to people do not leave the page only becuase they would think is old and not worth anymore.

    But it depends on you, although as I said, maybe that would be an advantadge of not leaving the date option on.

    If your blog content is evergreen, there is truly no reason to use dates on blog posts. People are programmed to want the latest and greatest. Dates on blog posts can easily make quality content look old and irrelevant.
