Just built what I consider my best looking WP site yet with a blend of red, orange, and yellow highlights. *Still a bit worried it's a bit too colorful though... the page backgrounds are white with a deep dark grey text for easy reading.

I just finished tweaking another blog with black, green, bright green, and with a similar layout. To date, these 2 sites are my favorite WP sites to date.

At times, I wonder if the basic sites do better than all these paid themes with the 'busy' flair?

I happen to like the more graphical, artistic, and complicated stuff personally, but I'd almost bet the 'basic layout' gets just as much mileage if not more, as it can reach a broader audience.

To an extent, I feel the work we pour into our sites should be a reflection of ourselves and our creativity, so, I think the color is a small thing to consider, and the focus is still on the content and value within the site.

    All the Best,

    Art

        Interesting question...

My colors are an earthy green, purple and beige.

A blue and white color scheme is traditional for business-oriented sites (and mine is a business-to-business...well, business ) and there are SO many blue and white sites. Blue and white is clean and professional, but I wanted something different.

Since my sites are about online marketing and business development, I wanted green, but wanted to stay away from the bright green of cheesy get-rich-quick sites.

My target market is health and wellness professionals, so purple is a good choice. The earthy green/purple/beige color scheme is perfect for my target market, doesn't look cheap or cheesy, and gives my site a subtle feminine flair without being frilly or "cutesy."

The choice of a color scheme is important and was harder than I would have expected. But I'm very happy with the result!

Depends on my niche. In health related, I tend to use blues (probably the most common colour I'll use). Reds for the relationship niche. I opened a couple of online stores where I used browns for a handbag shop and purple for a tattoo related shop.

With all of them, I usually like to use a dark background (not where the text is of course... the text is on white background).

What I normally do is browse successful websites in the niche and see what kind of colours they use.

Every site I make is different. Most start with a graphic - the header graphic or an affiliate graphic. Then I design the colours around that. I usually keep it simple - most visitors don't come to a site for an artistic experience - they come for information and they want a site that is easy to navigate.

Color scheme is important, people sub consiously feel the site from the coulor , its a well known fact that coulors relay feeling. ie... reds, yellows and shades of these colors reflect warmth,.... Blue, white and shades thereoff reflect cold... so on and so on, Yes blues can refelct warmth as well but in general the color scheme should be related to subject.

For example.. if you created a site to sell a holidy i would probably use both blue and yellow and shades of these colors to reflect oceans/sea etc... from the blues, and yellows to reflect sun and sand both giving an appealing and warm feeling.

Again color should be related to the subject and not overbaring that you turn the visitor away and i personly would use no more than 3 colors as other graphics may introduce color to your site. You might have use only one main color if your graphics produce 3 to 4 colors on there own.
