Those of you who have been coding for a while, how long did it take you to learn css and xhtml, to the point that you felt comfortable? I'm trying to learn this, and it seems to be a very slow process. (I am also coding it by hand in a text editor.

    This is how it went for me I start ed many years ago with Dreamweaver and first I have to say Dreamweaver was a nightmare I spent far more time fighting with the software than I ever did trying to understand the markup language. The one advantage I did see to using the software was being able to see my code in split view so I could see the page I was creating and in an adjoining window I could see the actual code. I finally gave up on Dreamweaver and started using Visual studio. VS has some really great assistants for instance if I start typing some CSS like for instance

    Code:
    .mydiv
                  [
                   float:left;
                   margin-left:30px;
    ]

    VS will give me a drop down list at every step with a list of possible legal parameters This makes learning CSS and all the possible parameters and value much easier. I found that I was just typing my code as I needed it and that writing code was a lot like typing a story or anything else because I was thinking what I needed to do and the code it took to do it and that's what I was typing.

    It takes some time to get the basics.

    For me it took several months and you have to code a lot, to read a lot, to practice a lot.
