k so , I refuse to follow all the stereo types out there and designed a simple header and footer with a simple gadget for a traffic exchange using a highly popular script.

See, all the other sites are fancy, flashy and have four zilllion words of adsale on them, i put my point and price and think thats good, can you tell me if yer ole school or think it needs that flashy look like all the others?

I like plain dane no nonsense no hype sites... but thats an old fellow like me :0

The sites in my signature,, re bistips, and no its not for sign ups, its for real critique.

what ya think?

i think the main thing about a website if your selling items, is not distract the customer with loads of "flashy effects" a simple description of the item with payment etc... and photos will benefit your customer than music blasting or loads of pop up,s at the end of the day the reason the person first came to your site was to buy something not be entertained

The only problem with that kind of approach is that YOU are not your own customer...

It doesn't matter what you, personally, like or don't.
The real question is: what does your niche like?

P.S. Unnecessarily flashy and hype sales copy and a professionally written sales copy are not the same! You need the latter one - go over to the copywriter forum and ask for help/advice.

Agree with cassiegetty, the layout is too simple and the background color is not very soothing to the eye. The logo is kinda blurry which means a lot because your logo is the first thing your visitor sees when they visit your site. First impression lasts.

The content is also very thin. You need to write longer sales copy preferably with testimonials in order to build up your credibility.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Cheers,
    Wesley

You website looks, good however there are a few things that do bring up concern. Some things you might want to do if for your logo, have the image be only the BisTips, and then have the "Affiliate marketing..." be actual text. Also your image needs alt tags, this is very important.

Problems concerning your background image, is it suppose to stop? is there a no-repeat on it? if so then your background color should be #c1eff1 and not #fff.

If your offering more website traffic, why dont you have meta tags/descriptions? From an SEO point, you might want to add that, alt tags to images, and add google analytics to track your visits.

Those are just a few things that really pop out at me.If you still want to go further, i downloaded this eBook called "Website Redesign 101 - IMPACT Branding & Design LLC" if you google that it should be the first link. (i would link but i cant) Which is a really good ebook. it talked about formatting your homepage with social media, having landing pages, cleaning up my content, and offering ideas to make my website a more enjoyable time for my viewers.

So as not to fill up the board with replies I have read each post and have thanked each one as i will also do for any future posts.

My thank-you will signify I have read and appreciate your comments.

So far i have seen at least two major ideas that I agree with - design apeal and adcopy - they both suck.

It is on my list to do asap.

      Looking forwards to more input

      Glen

If anything it was a long page. no one likes a home page that is that long. summarize each section and provide a link to each with a more detailed description.

    @goodyshop,

The best way to deal with nonsense comments/replies - to disregard them and NEVER quote them; never answer them!

If they are just spamming the forum, they will end up deleted pretty soon... so, why would you want to have a post quoting their not-so-smart "contribution"?

The site is currently down - some problem with a server - was a DNS restart yesterday - wonder what their excuse today is.

I've looked at the page and thought it could use some minor work. For one, try to get a professional image of you taken behind a backdrop; maybe one where you're dressed in a suit and tie. This gives you more credibility and a more business-like appearance. Also, may I suggest that you get on Google and find the BEST looking sales page in your niche, then write down all the features you liked or didn't like. The next step is to redisgn your website using some of those points that you wrote down(but don't copy your competitor's webpage! Just put together your own version of what you thought was great.) You will start to see your webpage liven up a bit by doing this. Hope this helps.

You have used 5-6 colors in your site. Sadly they don't match each other. Your basic blue color is really nice. I would suggest not to use more than 2-3 colors.
