Hi guys,

My website takes ages to load except for two squeeze pages.
What can I do to make it faster? Has it got to do with the images?

take a look: http://www.roanakkermans.com

Thanks!

Roan

You have one "w" too many in your URL, it should be Roan Akkermans

It looks to me that the following calls to external files may be slowing down the loading of your site:
    Code:
    http://4llw4d.freefilesblog.com/jquery.min.js
    and
    Code:
    http://4llw4d.freefilesblog.com/jquery.js
Is it a plugin? Maybe you can upload and call those files (that appear to be blank, BTW) locally instead?

    Maybe it's malware...

    • The biggest issue I had over the years was cheap hosting. I switched to Media Temple and most of my problems went away.

It's a bit more expensive but it actually made a huge difference.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the site is being hosted on HostGator. Not really a cheap host. I would ask your host to change you over to another server if possible. Also, if you're using wordpress, install W3 Total Cache. I've written essential wordpress plugins which talks about good plugins to have for your site.

Hope it helps! PM if you still need help.

    Hi,

you have too many javascripts, nine of them; some of them being really heavy, some of them calling external DNSs. Which means that several javascripts have to contact (depend on) other sites (services) before loading within the browser.
As the JS are in the head (as most of the JSs), the body hardly loads.

In other words, you have too many heavy installed plugins.

You may find several free tools to confirm that. Why don't you check: GG's "pagespeed".

The JQuerry scripts are those slide show from slidedeck.com site...
And lot of javascripts as well...

As IM-software specified the 9 javascripts... you must remove the useless javascripts which are not ESSENTIAL and are just for aesthetic purpose... or for the sake of beauty...

As I mentioned above, those external scripts are slowing your site down - your site is waiting to load them, and if they're slow/not loading, that affects your site loading too.

I found out it is a known issue with (some) Elegant Themes, that try and include the jquery scripts from their own site (4llw4d.freefilesblog.com), which is very slow/not loading, thus affecting your site.

    Solutions:
    1. You can change the code in your theme header to either load the jquery scripts from your own site, or a fast outside source, such as Google; or
    2. Get the theme update from Elegant Themes - apparently, the newest version does not call the jquery scripts from an outside source.
Do either of these, and your slow site will be fast, guaranteed.

Speed is a real issue for visitors and for search engines, because it can affect rankings.

In terms of WordPress websites, here's what I do and recommend to everyone:

      - Install a premium theme that has clean code which loads fast
      - Try to use images that have small sizes; big images take ages to load
      - Use only the plugins that you really need; plugins add additional scripts to load and they make the site slow.
      - Use a CDN (Content Delivery Network); Amazon is really inexpensive

That being said, from my tests your site loads in 2.9 seconds which is pretty good, but if you would like you can do even better.

      Hope this helps.

        Hi killer999,

I agree with you that Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) will be a great solution to improve the website speed. But also you should do this by reducing the file size. it is better to use different file for different section of the information instead of single file.

Hi Roan, after checking, you are using FlexSqueeze wordpress themes that is cool, your site hosted in hostgator no problem.

Here is i learn from my own site, because i am using FlexSqueeze themes too. you need to deactivate all the plugin, then reactivate it one by one observe the speed after you activate every plugin.

    Hope this help

A good caching system can work wonders. Also make sure not to use really bad hosting, they can really screw you over. You can pick up a nice vps cheap if you find a great deal and itll be amazing

    1. Minimize the number of HTTP requests
    2. Optimize and correctly display images
    3. Minify HTML, CSS, and Javascript
    4. Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
    5. Gzip and compress components
    6. Choose <link> over @import
    7. Put stylesheets at the top
    8. Put scripts at the bottom
    9. Utilize browser caching
    10. Use CSS Sprites

I don't think your website is slow still you can try one thing.

Install Yslow addon in mozilla firefox. Open your website and run the test.
Then click on the components ans statistics from that you would get the exact idea that which things takes maximum loading.

Optimizing them will help to load your website faster.

If you are using shared hosting it could be one of the reasons. Switching to VPS can help load it faster.

When the page needs to get its content from a database (Wordpress posts and pages) the load time gets bigger. While the squeeze pages have everything stored in their file hence you noticed they loaded much faster.

Images do increase the load time but not as much, especially if they are not too big in size.

If you are driving paid traffic to your sales page you may want to decrease the load times. The visitors will lose interest waiting for it to load and hit 'back' or go to your competitors site!

      Good luck!

The OP hasn't updated this thread, so I assume the problem has been resolved. Also, to everyone saying use WP SuperCache... that's not the only solution here. There are a lot of things that play into performance issues, and 9 times out of 10 having cheap web hosting with an overloaded environment is the main cause.

      Hi Roan,

Your site is loading up fine for me.

However, if I were you, IMHO I'd drop using what appears to be a web-editor (unnecessary ugly frames), and learn WordPress.

The time you spend messing around with html in web editor to beautify everything, you can have learned WordPress, which an many Warriors will verify, gives you pretty much limitless versatility
