Make a page more graphical. Process?

I have some web developers working on a new site for me.

They're very good at what they're doing. However - the pages they are designing lack graphical pleasure. They seem to be using text columns to present the copy I am giving them.

I am looking to get someone to design the page content for my using graphics.

I'd then like to give it to the web designers so that they can implement it within the page - ensuring that text within the grahics is published as text so that Google can read it.

What skills in a designer should I look for, to do this? I'd like them to spruce the page up and then I'll hand it to my developers for them to publish.

    Get someone else, then.

I don't want to....I don't want to hire a jack of all trades.

These guys are expert developers - technically perfect. I don't really expect them to be at graphic design - as that is the job of a graphic designer.

People who claim to do everything generally do everything at a mediocre level, and that doesn't fly with me.

      Now...back to my question...

This is an eternal dilemma: excellent coders are crappy graphic designers, and graphic designers are not aware of the limitations/issues when turning their 'fantasy' into code... so, nobody is ever happy. Of course, the most unhappy is the client trying to get together the two entities that don't want to communicate with each other

You can have a graphic designer (web site designer?) to... well, design the visual aspect of the site. Not everything that is really a graphic, i.e. an image in their draft... has to be used as "image" in the web site. Lots of visual aspects can and SHOULD be done by simple html/css code: it makes sites/pages lighter, easier and faster! "Sprucing it up" is shouldn't necessarily mean to get a web page with tons of images!!!

In an ideal world all three of you should have at least a vague idea what is involved in every aspect of this job... otherwise everybody will be frustrated and nothing will be achieved
