I currently use Expression Web but a lot of hosting companies are stopping supporting FrontPage extensions so I need a good "paid" HTML editing software program recommendation.

Thanks

Dreamweaver is what you need, as a second choice (a very good one I'd say) would be Komodo IDE, now you have two choices according to budget.

Notepad. Learn to code before you start using programs. Apps like dreamweaver should only be used as a convenience.

Yea I was thinking Dreamweaver as well. When I first started with web sites I used FrontPage and then upgraded to Expression not thinking that someday hosting companies will stop supporting FrontPage extensions.

To this day I like HTML sites but I have been working with WordPress. The only drawback I see with WordPress is that if the theme you purchase stops working or the developer stops updating you can potentially be in a mess and this applies to plugins as well. A couple of my clients use WordPress so I just have to deal with it and learn to like it. I know my clients and my personal sites seem to rank faster with HTML.

    I'm using Notepad++ -- so far it's very reliable and user-friendly.

It's 100% free, open-source, and it gets the job done!

Another vote for Dreamweaver. Been using it for many years. Although, as mentioned, it sure doesn't hurt to learn to code by hand with something like notepad. DW is bad for adding too much unnecessary code.

Course, also as mentioned, with wordpress, not much need to "create" websites. I use DW to edit my wordpress sites. I haven't attempted to "make" a website in along time.

Best thing I like about Dreamweaver is the built in smart FTP, a REAL time saver!

Thanks for you post. I will download the free trial of DW and see how it goes. I will have to redo my current sites to undo the formatting for FrontPage extensions.

I have debated on whether to stay with HTML or start using WordPress but with the issues I am encountering with my clients WordPress sites I believe I will stick with what I know. I believe WordPress is great but I believe the problems arise from the theme developers and plugin developers. You have to rely on several people / companies to keep their product updated, something I'm uncomfortable with.

You could always pick up an older copy of DW, say on Ebay. It didn't change that much over the years. I currently use MX 2004 an it works perfectly for me. Adobe makes some great products, they just price them way to high.

I started online before Wordpress was around and frankly, wasted way too much time "making" html websites. Just my opinion.

Keeping the wordpress core and plug-ins updated, to me, is a VERY small price to pay for all the time, frustrating and hair pulling, I've saved over the years. But of course, to each their own.

I don't make HTML sites. I purchase pre-made templates and customize theme which is easier and a time saver. I do like WordPress, it's just has been a pain lately with new clients that I have acquired who are already using WordPress and the themes they use.

Dreamweaver is the premium in my opinion. Tough I have used coffee cup editor and gotten by. I also used to use frontpage... way back in the day.

I just downloaded a trial version of DreamWeaver. had to get used to opening a page at a time as opposed to Expression Web "formerly Frontpage"
opening a site at one time.

So far it hasn't been a problem using DreamWeaver. I did attempt to input Microdata snippets into an old HTML page that was made for FrontPage and it worked.

I'm still on the fence on whether to buy DreamWeaver and stay with HTML sites or go with WordPress. I'm trying to figure out if Expression Web can be used to save templates as plain HTML. I know Expression Web can be upgraded cheaper than buying DreamWeaver.
