Adding a blog to a static website

I create physical products and sell them mostly via retail shops and some design studios. I have a static website. It represents my products well, but it doesn't get lots of traffic. I have a mechanism on the site to sell products directly, but it really isn't working. I'm considering adding a blog to increase traffic. I could put a blog tab on my static site and link to a WP blog with a different URL, but would that actually bring traffic to my site, or just to the blog with a possible link back to the static site. What I'm really wanting to do is to generate quality content within my industry as a way of joining the discussion, becoming better known, and drawing interest toward my products. Just realized that I have broadened the question here, but thought it might add some understanding of my thinking. I'm really thinking of traffic to my product presentation.

Absolutely. Integrate a blog or similar platform so you can produce more content. You can even do videos and embed them in the blog.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

It's a great idea to have a Blog with links to your main site. Would it be better to put the Blog in a sub-directory rather than in a different URL?

Agree with Peptone above, create a sub-directory of your main domain and install Wordpress on that.

Also, are there any industry related forums you could join or Facebook groups that could contribute to so you get yourself known?

Perhaps you could even have your own Facebook Page?

      Hope that helps

From a pure traffic perspective you may want to think about having your blog fully integrated into your site.

You could do that by moving your entire current site to WordPress, and setting it up with a static front page. The blog page containing your articles would then be one of the menu tabs.

That would, at least, get the traffic coming to your blog right onto your domain and linking between blog articles and product pages on your site would all be within your domain.

    Cheers,

    Martin.
