Most of my Joomla sites I've designed myself, so I don't have a lot of experience using other people's.

However, I have used a Rockettheme template before, and I liked it. I do have a membership with them as I use some of their plugins.

I don't think that the paying extra to remove the branding is necessarily standard for Joomla themes, for plugins/components yes. But the developer can set their pricing however they want.

What is pretty common with Joomla theme developers is a Template club where you pay a subscription and then get access to all of the templates for that period. I think they usually limit the number of domains you can use them on.

One that I would be a little bit wary of is JoomlaXTC. They have beautiful themes, but I took over maintenance for a site using one of their themes. The theme calls other template files using relative URL's, meaning that if you turn on SEF url's, the theme breaks.

Not good.

I don't know if their newer themes are the same way, but it is something to consider.

Unless if a designer seriously messes things up (which is always possible,) SEO for Joomla is more in the configuration in the administration area than the template.

Things I would look for are if they use divisions versus tables. The default for Joomla is still tables, so the theme has to override that.

The other thing that you don't really know until you get in and start using it is if the theme overrides standard functions in Joomla. Some do to get certain looks, but if you're used to the way Joomla functions, it can be a little frustrating to suddenly run into that.

Joomla 2.5 has meta description and keyword tags as part of the core now. To get control over the titles, the SEF extension I use handles that, sh404SEF.

Thank you for all that information. I have see the developer clubs, but I am not ready for that yet.

I have heard a lot of good about Rocketthemes in my searches and their prices are reasonable. Now I just have to get over my doubt about going with Joomla instead of Wordpress.

Really? That's interesting.

Maybe that is just one more *special* thing the person that set up the site did. I'm constantly finding little surprises on that one and it's been a nightmare.

There a lot of free joomla tempaltes . ONLY PROBLEM that i have senn there is the facet that they have hidden links which is bad for your site

I'm actually in the process of transferring it all over to mine now.

I can't wait until everything is done, it's been a complete nightmare trying to get things done because the previous person wouldn't give me access to the hosting cPanel.

If you say those templates actually work, I'm kind of excited. I thought I was going to have to recode the whole template so the SEF would work and also upgrade it. Maybe all I need to do is buy the theme again.

Joomla templates are easy to duplicate. I actually build my own Joomla templates by looking for free or premium css/joomla templates that I like and just coding it myself. Even if the template is free, I build it myself because I do not want to deal with other people's code.

I checked out sh404SEF and think I will probably get it as well. Are there any other must have extensions for Joomla?

I am also looking for a good extension that will let an article have reader comments below it like a blog.

If I turn on SEF before I bulid my webpage, then I shouldn't have to worry about any broken links?

In the global settings should I have all SEO Settings set to "yes" ?
