Change to Wordpress ??

Hi guys, Well my question is my website is currently in the first page of google for a few keywords. has about 3500 links to it as shown by Traffic Travis (still lots more not yet been found). My website is built using PHP. Should i change and make it into a wordpress website as i understand this can be better for indexing?

Thoughts and opinions please

    Depending on how valuable those keywords are to you, I wouldn't change over simply to get indexed faster. In fact, unless you are very careful in how you convert your website over to Wordpress (keeping all the links the same is important), you may sabotage your site's ranking because google will see it as a new (and less authoritative) pages.

    If all of those links are directed at the main index page, that probably isn't a huge issue, but all of your subpages may be in jeopardy.

    One option would be so integrate Wordpress into your existing site and keep all of the old pages. Unless you are determined to use Wordpress to manage every aspect of your website, that is probably what I would do.

    One main question is can i keep all the links the same? My website is built in PHP and hence has the .php prefix.

    ../123.php
    ../1572.php

    Can i make my pages like this, if so how would i go about doing this (i am not very experienced with Wordpress currently)

      You may be able to do that but the recommended method is to recreate all your pages within Wordpress and then create a 301 redirect mapping file for example:

      redirect 301 /123.php /category/123

      I can assist you with this is you do decide to go down this route, Wordpress certainly has 100's of bonuses over your standard website.

          Theres many many personal reasons but the big one is Wordpress is very good at SEO out of the box and does things automatically that you would otherwise have to manually code into your existing websites.

            To Switch my whole site over to Wordpress how would i go about it, i would obviously backup my whole site. Should i install Wordpress to the main root or into ../new (example) I would obviously create 301 redirects to the new web pages, but my question is if i make it in the root would Google think my website is a brand new site? Or would i be better off installing it into a sub directory and then making a 301 redirect for every single page so nobody access's the front pages?

            Also if Google does think my website is brand new, is that such a bad thing?

    The way I would do is would be to first create your wordpress site in a /dev/ directory so you can skin it up and make it look the way you want. Then once your happy you can move it into the root directory and update the links + add 301 redirects...

    Simple process if you understand it, else I can give you a hand once you've got your wordpress blog themed and setup in your /dev/ directory.

        PR2 and Backlinks are done at domain level so no Google would not treat your different design as a new website.

        Prime example of this is people changing their design everyday... The key thing you need to do to keep your PR is make sure you 301 redirect ALL old traffic to their new pages

    I think so, WordPress is more effective in terms of indexing and for SEO purposes.

    Only ignorant beginner WP-users think that a CMS can decide the fate of a website.

    If you have a well functioning, well ranking site - why to bother to switch to a CMS hoping in miracles?

      I will need a blog regardless to upade users with small bits of info without having to create a full page for a small bit of info. I am just unsure of doing a complete change or uust putting it on a sub dir

    Reading through these posts and familiar with Drupal which has URL aliasing this could be done easily with Drupal. You recreate the page in a Drupal node and then alias the page to the original file.php address. For instance if you have an about.php page you create a page in Drupal titled About and set the URL alias to about.php. Then user would then see about.php in the new Drupal page.

    There is a plug-in for WP that will let you format your pages so that they look like your current URLs.

    Istvan is a moderator for this forum, I guess he feels that gives him the right to be rude. He could have easily made his point without the condescending attitude.

            The problem is my website is generating next to nothing income. I have been looking into the WP heatmaptheme and was thinking if i put my website into this i might be able to start making something

              Others are, probably, more knowledgeable to give you marketing advice.

              I feel I am well prepared to give you this WP related advice: neither WordPress, nor any theme will make you more sales. Ever. Buyers don't care what is "behind" your site - a CMS engine or a handcoded HTML.

              That's why I said at the very beginning: do NOT expect any miracles just because you'd switch to WP.

              (For the future: next time ask the right question, instead of going around it... You don't have an "indexing" problem for which you think WP would be helpful. You have a conversion problem: either because your offer is not good enough or your sales copy is not good enough. - No, I didn't visit your site...)

    I agree that changing the site over to WP is not going to make the site magically start to make money. But, done right, I see no harm in making the change if there are other reasons for wanting to change over.

    To the OP. I assume you are talking about your COD site? The first thing I noticed is that your advertising has nothing to do with your topic. Aren't there any products relating to COD that you can promote? Clickbank, Amazon, something relevant?
