Wordpress Page Breaks And SEO Help

Hello Warriors,

A stem winder question for Wordpress/SEO savvy guys regarding pesky page breaks...

In more than 40 sites I have never had to seriously worry with page breaks, but I'm there now.

I have a long article that needs to be strung out on more than one page.

So, for SEO value, is it better to use the Wordpress page break function, or simply split the article into two, and manually post on two pages?

For simplicity, just say that there is only one key phrase to worry with.

What I'm seeing after using the page break is there isn't a new post in the directory. It's still just one page. But when you view it, it's split up on the computer with the neat little page numbers below. I don't understand the mechanics of this.

If SEO weren't important, the page break would be dandy, you see. And may still be.

Here's the big question... Using the ol page break, I'm wondering if a search bot would index it as one long page?

You know, I think I just answered my own question, but I'd still like your input.

Obviously I'd get more bang with two pages with that phrase on it.

See what I mean?

If you know, or have a good opinion, I'd love to hear it.

Super thanks!
Norm

I'm using Post Tabs plugin.. It allows you to easily split your post/page content into Tabs that will be shown to your visitors and google will always read the page as one long page.

    Hi,

One way that splitting a long post up helps is by increasing page views and reducing bounce rate. Take a look at the source code of the page in order to determine if the bots will view it as one long page or separate pages.

Thanks cuple and mgreener for the replies.

You know, when you're starting out a new site, the main thing to do is to lay the first course properly. Since the content is going to be long, and aimed at SEO, it has to be right.... Therefore with what I'm learning, I'll just manually split up the stuff...and put a page number table...or just a row of numbers on each page. It isn't elegant, but it will maximize the effort, I think. There won't be any of that next/previous stuff in my little number bar. Trying to do that manually for several pages will make you crazy real fast.

This morning I have been studying Pages vs Posts for SEO. What I'm finding is a lot of theories that one is about as good as the other. That's surprising.

So, since nobody seems to have this issue nailed down, I'm thinking to start the content on a page, and then piece it out onto posts, with the posts pointing back to the page with the intent of increasing the page's search engine value. (And still getting the juicy goodness out of the individual posts.)

You don't have too many sites worrying about long content, so this is a sho nuff oddball situation.

Used to be I wouldn't even worry about this finessing and still rank fine...but times are a'changing.

Again, super thanks for your replies!!!
