Wordpress Speed Problems - New Host, Maybe?

I currently use Fatcow for my wordpress site, which has been fine for a long time. However, traffic is starting to pick up and on my most visited pages I'm getting load times of 10, 15, even 20 seconds on average. This is obviously horrible and is going to pillage my bottom line.

I installed W3 Total Cache today, but I haven't seen much improvement. There is still a lot of server processing going on and each time it has to process something it still takes at least 3-5 seconds. I haven't yet tried to use a CDN, but that is something I might try.

My question is do you have any suggestions for speeding up my site or is there a host that is good at handling wordpress sites specifically that you'd recommend?

Don't have this issues @Hotsgator packages. But we own a lot of them, with 10/20 sites in each, and they're "small" mom and pop sites, so... no worries so far.

It seems that the processing time might be directly related to traffic too. I currently get about 300 visits daily, what are your sites getting?

Some of them 1K/3K per day. And these are small sites.

Edit: What kind (and how many) plugins are you using? That might be YOUR answer...

Can you shoot me a PM with a link? I'd be happy to see what I can dig up..

EDIT: If you can't PM, you can shoot me an email at brent@vopahost.com if you'd like.

HostGator is a great company like mentioned above, until your site actually starts using resources. You'll soon find out that sites using databases, especially Wordpress will end up with slow response times...especially when working in the Admin panel.

I currently have 11 plugins. If this seems like a problem, I'm going to get rid of some that I don't use much.

We (normally) just use 2-3. XML sitemaps, Askimet and (sometimes) ContactForm7.

Yeah, to be honest, I didn't realize plugins were such memory hogs. I definitely want to reevaluate and cut down the list where I can. I appreciate that feedback.

I can never recommend Media Temple's Grid Server hosting enough.

At the moment we're runnng around three quarters of a million pageviews per month without a problem and we've still got plenty of headroom on the bandwidth and GPUs.

All in one seo pack - I'd recommend using Yoast in place of this.

Contact form7 - we spoke via email, but I forgot to mention we offer JotForm, which can replace that plugin.

W3 - We're a CloudFlare Partner, which CloudFlare can be integrated with a few clicks.

These are just a few improvements we can make to help speed things up. CloudFlare will make a noticeable difference as well.

You bet! We push CloudFlare as much as we can. Two major things we do are use the products we offer & use the services we promote. The combination of CloudFlare, LiteSpeed & non-overloaded servers have proven wonders to both us and our customers. As you can see from our WSO responses, every single customer has had an increase in performance, reliability & security. Warrior Forum isn't our only market either - we push other various places on the internet as well as locally. With CloudFlare alone, just having it integrated with our infrastructure makes it super easy on our customers since there's only a few clicks to get it set up.

Exactly what we like to hear

You should also check out the new DDoS mitigation feature we offer (could be of interest to your customers).

It keeps getting better. I'll look into getting this as well as the ScrapeShield integrated with our packages. (marketing details, how-to etc)

              Thanks!

11 probably isn't too crazy of a number of plugins to have..but some can cause performance issues. You can see if any specific WordPress plugins are causing performance issues with the information here.

I would also recommend running your site through something like Pingdom.com or Webpagetest.org to see if there any performance bottlenecks on your site as well.
