Hello

I have a little problem I think. I hope this make sense to someone.

I bought a domain and followed a YT video on how to get it installed on Hostgator.

Hostgator does everything that happens on the video including the addon domain verifying that the domain name is added. (I already have 1 domain set up no problem)

Then using fantastico I followed the video and it went through to Finish Installation and it says that it has done that and shows the link to the url/wp-admin with the user name and password for me to get in.

So all is okay.

Thing is when I click on the link nothing happens. I can see Google hunting for the site and then a page comes up saying 'No Data Received' because the server sent no data.

So any idea on what the problem is. All YT videos show the same process and all go to WP login panel when they click on the link Hostgator gives.

Appreciate your expertise.

Dan

Did you change your nameservers for the domain name at your registrar? When did you buy the domain and change the DNS (might not be completely changed yet)?

By the way, Fantastico, definitely not the safest way to install WordPress, just saying.

No didn't do any of that. I just did what the YT videos said. Would that explain it then? I got the domain about 5 mins before I did what the videos do.

How do you install WP then? Seems everything I saw shows this Fantastico thing.

PS: I admit I'm looking pretty incompetent here but that is fine.

PPS: Okay I am having a look at the domain company register to see if I can find out how to do that. Thanks.

You're not looking imcompetent, just new to the "game", that's all

Your nameservers are what links your domain from your registrar to your hosting. I have a video on it for my PLR buyers, that I'm sure will help you out too. It works with the dynadot registrar, but with that explanation I'm sure you'll find where you need to go with whatever registrar you're using:
I install WP manually, meaning, creating the database myself, uploading the files myself, everything that Fantastico does, but when you do it manually you can make certain changes that makes your installation a bit safer. I could give you the link to the report I have on it that I sell, but that would be promoting my products, I'll just go with telling you to do a search in youtube for "WordPress manual installation". That will help you on your way for manual installations.

Domain names are like mobile homes - you buy it, then you have to park it somewhere (that's what a web host is). Once you have chose where your domain (mobile home) will be parked (web host), you have to go to the place where you registered your domain (domain registrar - ie. godaddy, name cheap, etc..) and tell it where you are parking your domain = you do this by entering in your domain nameservers (DNS) that your web host gave you. Similar to "this is my address, send all my mail here" kind of a situation.

Once you've told the domain registrar where to find your site files (i.e. what your web hosting domain nameservers are); then you install Wordpress over on your web host. Fantastico is one way to install Wordpress; the other is to install it manually using an FTP program to upload the files to your server.

If you use Fantastico, and you are wanting to install Wordpress in an add-on domain in your HostGator account vs. the main domain on your HostGator account - make sure you select that domain from the dropdown list in the Fantastico setup, so it installs Wordpress on the domain you want it on. Default is to install it on the root domain for the hosting account.

If you only have one domain, and that's the same one for your HostGator account, then you don't need to add-on the domain in your account first, just click Fantastico and install it.
