Can anyone tell me whether or not Dreamweave can run/test a php page without your machine having apache and the php interpreter installed. For instance most editors can run your pages in a browser at least your html pages and Visual Web Developer can run ASP pages complete with MSSQL backends. Working with Wordpress I find myself needing to accommodate mySQL and the PHP interpreter. the aggravating thing is that if you run Apache you can't run IIS or anything that needs it like Visual Web Developer. so switching back and forth is a real pain in the rear.

  • I'd recommend easyphp EasyPHP | Install a local WAMP server : PHP 5 VC9, Apache 2 VC9, MySQL 5, PhpMyAdmin, Xdebug and Modules on Windows XP/Vista/Seven for a quick setup of a local WAMP server. Easy to install and would probably work well for your purposes.

Have you tried setting Apache to listen on some other port besides the default at 80?

You can leave the IIS localhost listening on port: 80 and Apache to listen on port: 8080

Not sure if this wouldn't interfere with each other but I believe this might work.

Hey that's a good idea Not being an Apache guy I'll have to lookup where that is set. but excellent suggestion. Thank you.

IIS I know frontwards and backwards I was running my own webserver from my desktop but when I started getting serious about IM I decided to move everything over to hosted servers for the bandwidth

I do have WAMP installed but running Apache ties up port 80 stopping IIS from being able to run I use some things that need IIS WHICH MEANS Having to go into services and stop Apache every time I want to run anything that uses Apache and then visa versa to change back. Shutting down IIS is a bit involved because there are several dependent services. In any event switching between Apache and IIS is a hassle.
However SergioFelix's suggestion I believe will solve the issue I'll have to try it and see how it works out.
It's really unfortunate that there's not the support for something like Blogengine that there is for Wordpress, ASP is so much easier to work with than PHP and frankly so much more powerful. Oh well, maybe some day.
