Please Give Feedback On My Site

Hi, all

Can you please give me some feedback on my site. I've just got a new logo and banner, as was suggested by other warriors earlier. I'm interested to know whether you think the current home page (all articles) is best or whether Start Here would be better. Also, what's the load time like?

The site is dreambodysixpack [dot] com
There is a link to Start Here on the home page, which you'll hopefully see easily!

Thanks in advance.

David.

    Hi David,

I really like the design of your site. It doesn't feel cluttered, and there's plenty of room for your content to be the main focus. That being said, I didn't feel immediately drawn to the "Start Here" link. If that's where you want new visitors to go right away, maybe consider something that will draw their attention a little more? Personally, I glossed over the menu links and immediately started looking at post titles.

I see that each post has a featured image once you click through to the post itself, but the featured images aren't displayed on the main page. This is a matter of preference I'm sure, but maybe consider displaying the featured images on your main page? I feel like this would give it a lot more color and life.

Speaking of color, and poo-pooing your new logo/banner is the last thing I want to do, but it might be beneficial to reconsider the blue color scheme. Now, personally, I love blue. It's my favorite color. However, I have noticed that a lot of landing pages for male workout/fitness products tend to use a color scheme that's primarily black and red. I would imagine this is because black and red are more "masculine."

But then again, the immensely popular beachbody.com (of P90X fame) uses a black and blue color scheme - but the buttons are red. I would look at some of the established sites/blogs in your niche and see how they're doing things, and "borrow" some of the design elements that you think would best suit your audience.

All in all, I wouldn't go too crazy over trying to get the perfect design -- a design is made to compliment your content, which from what I glanced over, looks to be pretty darn good.

As for the loading speed, I'm on a somewhat substandard residential DSL line and the page loaded pretty quickly.

Looks fine but you have nothing to capture information from your visitors and prospective customers. If your going to get people to your site always try and capture information so that you can market to them again especially as they might not come back.

    Loaded up pretty quickly.

I used aweber until recently but was getting very few signups so I spent the money on the banner instead. My money-saving plan is that people will return for the regular articles, plus they can always sign up on twitter or facebook so I can use that to contact them if/when necessary. People check Twitter and FB but no one reads emails anymore so this seems like a good idea to me. Or am I missing something obvious?

As for the rest of the advice I've got so far - you've given me things to try. More obvious Start Here and maybe put the images back on post excerpts. And Adsense of course

Person examine Tweets and FB but no one flows e-mails any longer so this seems like a wise decision to me. Or am I losing something obvious?

Yes I agree with a lot of he comments above. First of all you have a lot of good content for somebody interested in the topic. Secondly you have a good niche. I would make the Start Here page my (static) home page. Add another menu entry for the blog. (Actually when I landed on the site I thought you just called your Home page Start Here). Site loaded fast enough.

    David,

As someone who has been both in the fitness niche for 12 years and a marketer/copywriter for as long... your site layout and design is a breath of fresh air. great job with the layout and design... it's nice, clean, clear, and easy to read.

You have no idea how many sites come across my desk on a regular basis that look like their dog had a hand in designing it.

i always tell clients... if you want to see how a billion dollar company does design and layout, check out Apple

here's a huge, billion dollar plus company that has simple, easy, clear design and nagivation... which means almost all of us could do the same.

as far as traffic goes, keep adding content. not sure if you're using these terms but last time i built a fitness site, i noticed the terms "belly fat, lose belly fat, belly fat loss, lose stomach fat" and related keywords like those had a ton of demand.... but very little supply.

so, if you're after traffic, you could start adding some pages with content built around keywords like those, and then refer them to vince's program.

also, start researching other high demand keywords that are low in competition, in the fitness niche, and that may perk up your traffic fast.

anyways, i just wanted to take a moment and acknowledge good design when i see it... nice work.

    Hey man!

I like the site, has lots of content! But for me and I think most people.... like to look at pictures. I think Pictures really capture attention. You should add pictures, related to the article. Add a picture to the top of each article, so it can be seen with in every post, on the main page.

Thanks everyone, it's great to get such positive feedback. And quite a relief!

I did have images on the home page but I was concerned about loading time so I removed them, the articles themselves each have an image when loaded though.

Just before I came on here to check this thread I wrote a note for myself "Make Start Here my home page." I better get on that!

shawnlebrun: Glad you like the site and yes, belly fat, lose stomach fat etc are still good keywords, and I'm using them. I'm writing an article a day but only posting every 3 or 4 days, which I'll reduce to every 6 or 7 days once I get more traffic and better ranking.

    Thanks again, everyone!

PS I assume that you've all signed up to my Twitter or Facebook so you know when the next article is posted

    David,

I think it looks a lot better than most websites. Although I'm not that interested in the subject matter, at least I know what you're hoping to convey. I would not change anything at this time; instead, I suggest you try to plug it wherever you can.
As for adsense, stay away from that noise. It will diminish the integrity of the site.

Quite a plain site, but compared to a lot of "six pack" sites usually stuffed full of pictures), it is much easier to read!
Next, I would generate some traffic with perhaps an accompanying blog and get some more content which is a bit more fun to read ('How To' articles/ tips/ Top Ten ab techniques, that kind of thing).

Perhaps try and get some video tutorials up too!

    Hope this helps a little
