Website Review - What can I do to improve user experience?

Hey everyone,

Earlier this year I started this simple e-commerce site - caseitup.com.

So I ask you all (1) What do you think of the current design, (2) How would you improve the design and (3) What do you think are some things I could do to get people more conversions?

The site has grown a lot in terms of visitors and products. I have hit a wall a bit creatively since I am on the site so much and know it so well. At some point you need to step back and get a critique.

Any feedback or criticism is appreciated!

First off, I think the site looks great. Good choice of font in Helvetica Neue - very readable and also modern looking.

One thing I would definitely alter is the header. There's too much white space that is pushing the rest of the content down and sending some important stuff below the fold. I think you could easily change the "padding" CSS on the #container div from 40px to 10px, for example.

I think if you clean up the header you would be presenting your money making content more prominently, which is definitely a good thing for your users, because ultimately they're there to buy from you!

Your site is great, the products you're promoting easily caught my attention and that is good for the viewers.

I love the colors and crisp photos.

The middle graphic is just a little too big. It doesn't line up with the navigation so it breaks my flow. So as an artist I stop and wonder what is wrong instead of oohing and awing at your cool cases.

This is minor, but affiliate links in my experience are best in the footer. You want to display the best of the best on the home page or on top to grab their attention so they can't leave.

I would add like a sale/promotion/contest tab or graphic.

Sorry, but I'm going to go against previous comments

The slim grey (gray) bar at the top either needs deleting or making the same width as the rest of the site.

YOur site looks a bit "square" or "boxy" to me.

      IMHO...

use a WordPress template (through cPanel) with one or two sidebars, such as Prosense

It may help if your base content was informative, not salesy, i.e. articles about your niche. All I see is a sales page; marketing philosophy is about building relationships and engaging with potential prospects nowadays, not the "push" selling of the past.

See where I think your mistaken (or missed what I do) is on my marketing philosophy. I am making a relationship on social media BEFORE they reach my site. My traffic doesn't come from spam marketing but from content I create on YouTube and Facebook. After the sale I send my customers coupons, deals and info on upcoming products. My website is made for customers to spend less time browsing and more time buying.

I'm neither mistaken, nor missed anything. Since you didn't say it was for (qualified?) customers in you OP, it was perhaps too easy to conclude that it could be for visitors and/or prospects too.

Yup, adjust according to the other comments, but I'll stick with my comment about the top bar, and content.

Good luck, see how it goes.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to reduce the size of the middle graphic slider. I have been playing with different ways to offer sales but I think a tab like you said may be the best approach.

    Just had a brief look.

The slider images are too big and make the rest of the site appear below the fold on smaller screens.

The logo is lost, make that bigger and it should be complemented on the other side with a strap line or a search box.

I would improve the signup box for your newsletter, its lost down there, the button is too small. I would also remove the word spam, even tho you have put a line through it the word is still there and you are not dealing with the marketing niche, so they would probably not think of spam anyway. Just put a notice below ensuring their privacy will be respected.

The rest works for me. Hope thats of some help.

    Things I like:

    - Responsive Design (almost)

    - Clean look

    - Nice graphics and effective use of slider to promote products

    - 20% coupon in exchange for email opt-in is a good thing.

Things that you may want to consider:

    - The header area is under-utilized. Your logo takes up about 1/10th of the space and the rest is unused. This "above the fold" area is too valuable to leave to empty space.

    - The responsive layout breaks down in critical places (the 25% coupon offer wraps wrong and is unreadable on small screens and the footer boxes are way off center)

    - You have an advertisement under your "Support" footer box. Users may get the wrong impression about your commitment to product support after the sale.

    - I would not use the word "Spam", in the way you are doing on the opt-in form. Just say, "we won't spam you" or "We hate spam". I find that works and people sort of expect it.

    - The page loads a bit slow (73/100 on Google Pagespeed Test) and takes a little over 5 seconds to load according to pingdom.

    Lets start with the good.
I really like the design a lot. It is clean, simple and looks very professional. I like your choice of colours and fonts (font sizes, etc).
Now for my opinion on what could be better.
I have read what others had to say, and I have to agree with MrMonetize and say that the slider is huge, way too big and tall. I think the logo is also too small. Currently it is around 250x100, why not try something like 330x130. There is also a lot of wasted white space on the right. You could try moving the logo in the centre - see how that looks. I am not liking the marquee-style text banner at the top of the website. It just doesn't grab me. Maybe it is the thin font and light grey colour, but either way, it may be better to move that elsewhere and push everything up (and the login stuff down to compensate). Last but not least, I think the menu system is a bit jerky. I do like how categorised sub-menu items are in columns, that is cool, it's just the drop-down needs refining. Maybe speed it up a bit and narrow the width of Accessories and Contact because it looks miles too padded.
Other than that, I think it is really great.
