I am giving away a free chapter from my ebook coming out. I used pretty link to spiffy up the link, but I realized when they click on it and go to the pdf page, the url on top has my wp-content/08/etc in the url and from there it is easy to see all of my files saved to my wordpress if they delete a couple of words in the url, which includes my actual eBook.

Is there a way to disguise the link they see after they click on it?

    I would just put in a blank index page into each folder so they can't snoop around the folder for other files.

    other things you could try is

    <embed src="http:// yoursite. com/the.pdf" width="500" height="375">

    and you could look at

    Yes what Cram said. A index.php or index.html file in each directory should keep people from being able to snoop.
