I have now been working on this site for the last 2 years and pushed it live recently. I have done it pretty much by myslef and refuse to give up. All I now need is a fellow Warrior to pat me on the back and tell me things are going to be ok?

How would you get people to sign up though. We get lots of google traffic but not many people contributing. Could it be that when hit the site non logged in, there is no welcome and you cant see the categories. Go to one of the discussions as a logged out user and you will see what i mean. Thanks so much for your time.

You got a lot of fortitude to code on one project for 2 years! I think the site looks great. I wouldn't even know it was a wordpress site if you hadn't said it was.

Awesome site, but doesn't the concept put you up against other Ask/Answer question giants?

Either you got your social skills from a box of cereal or you didn't understand why it was needed.

Hover in menu: So people know which item they're on, without reading the text. It's something I'd expect from a website. At least change the text color to something darker on hover.
The font: If someone finds something annoying, in this case hard to read. They'll leave.
The tabs: Someone see's a subject they like and wants to read more / ask about it, right away. Easy access = people staying on the website.

    Great job Oliver.
The idea is good but you need to market it. Specially in forums like this one so people can join it.

I am also working on a idea which is little similar to yours. These kind of ideas need very high advertising.

I have been advised to give up as the challenge is too big and there is no niche. Do you agree?

It's normal to get a ton of readers for each person who joins and contributes. I haven't seen stats for a long time, but about 95% of people who join a forum (including this one) never make a post. This was before xrummer came around with their profile garbage.

No. I think it's worth keeping on. The site might find it's own (unpredictable) niche or even niches. If you get some good material about any topic you'll start to get more visitors interested in it.

I found the title font unpleasant.

Your gift certificate for a random post is a good move. There is also a service called paidforumposting.com. They do very good work and are recommended by people here. It probably is similar to getting a forum going.

But I don't know how much of your time this is taking up. If that's excessive and return is not much, maybe it would be better to drop it.
