I have used DirectoryPress before than switched to GeoThemes which I like a lot. But this WP Local Places looks very interesting. :rolleyes:

Took a look at your directory, looks ok...but I would recommend to change up the coloring some. Doesn't seem balanced to me. And I would change up the top header, looks kinda cheesy. Sorry, just my take. Also your pricing seems all the same for all packages. Am I missing something there?? Should change it up so they see the value there if they go with a more premium listing. But, you did say you were not done with the site yet. So, maybe you just have not gotten to this section yet!!

I like the simplicity and clean look of the Geocraft theme. I may have a use for this simple look on a couple of niche themes.

Thanks for the update Andries, I like your theme demo but noticed that the resolution doesn't fit on my work computer. I don't know if it was meant to be that way or not.

Sounds Good, I purchased Directorypress and I really like its functionality and design. However it did require about 6-7 hours to setup my first website Top Orange County Restaurants « Best resaurants in Orange County ratings, reviews, and directions Top Orange County Restaurants

There were issues with Css that I had to have the Premiumpress support team help me out with which they did. I appreciate the quick responses premiumpress support provided.

My site isn't 100% complete but it is getting close to launch. Let me know what you guys think and if you like the layout/design

I do not have good experience with directories.
Once I developed a directory which offer paid and free listing but I got very few paid members because every one is looking for free listing and I could not afford expense of hosting so i decided to close it.
if you want to create Directory then you should work hard to get High PR for your Directory because only this way you can attract paid members.

That is interesting where did you move to? I didn't purchase the other themes but I read tons of reviews and comparisons so that is why I purchased Directorypress.

I heard Vantage is also great and easier to work with.

Wellm, were you selling listings for internet marketing companies? I feel like only web designers/SEO companies would know about Pagerank

Also, how much were you selling your paid listings for?

I like the vantage them by app themes, I havent tried the others though so I can't give any feedback on them.

Seems like the Vantage theme is coming along nicely but still was a ways to go. I asked several questions on their "pre-sales" forum and the answer was always something like "No, we don't have that feature yet."

i was not spamming, i was just commenting on the actual posts. For example if someone is looking for a directory theme i propose the theme i sell, and answer with what features it has and how it works. Im not commenting in forum threads with my directory theme if the thread is not about a directory theme.

Dont Use Appthemes, Ive been battling with this theme for 2 weeks. Its all marketing. If your a coder it might be ok but be prepared to code all the basic needs in. lol. Massive fail. Clients can upgrade plans, no category support, and many many more issues that will stress you out. Today I gave up.

WP Local Places and Geothemes are my 2 top candidates. Haven't pulled the trigger yet. I don't like the layout for WP Local Places. I am trying to figure out if the big map (disgusting) for Geothemes on the front page can be removed are replaced with something more eye catching.

Has anyone tried to modify either of these 2 themes with success?

you should fine at least a VPS server and they can handle millions of entries, they are based on Mysql. I have worked with mysql databases with over 30 million entries and works fine.
