Playing music on a website
- we have iTunes widgets, but they only play samples (and we can’t control what segment is presented)
- TuneCore widgets only present music by the song/album owner, which may be the record label, meaning delays, involving more people just to get something simple approved.
Required:
- Secure – browsers not able to download MP3s (or other format) and steal the songs
- Play the whole song, not just a snippet (I can do that myself)
- Ability to play/display/present an entire album
- Easy “buy” option
- Buy song
- Buy album
- Multiple vendors (iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody, CD Baby, CD Universe)
- Affiliate option(s)
- Embeddable (as opposed to a WordPress-specific plugin)
- Shareable (“share this link” or “share this widget”)
- Conveniently manageable by webmaster
- e.g. TuneCore only allows the owner of the music to upload
- delegating authority to manage a widget might be reasonable
- Integration with ArtistData or ReverbNation databases, etc.
- (nice to have, but lower priority)
- Affordable (ideally free, but not necessarily)
I invite you to share your experiences, comparisons and recommendations with the various services out there.
