Hey Guys,

New to IM and I have a question about WP installation. I literally just got a new domain and hosting account, and I attempted to install WP with the Fantastico De Luxe software in Cpanel. Anyway, my issue is that after I completed the installation and it says it was successful, when I click on the wp-admin link I get a page error.. Do I have to wait a period of time since the domain and hosting accounts are new, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

  • JB,

Your installation should be instantaneous unless you made changes to DNS settings (which can take longer to show up). Did you try visiting the link directly (i.e. www[dot]yoursite[dot]com/wp-admin)?

Perhaps this thread would be of some use,

WordPress › Support » New Site/ Can't log in to Admin.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

I tried visiting mysite[dot]come/wp-admin" directly but again I get an error page. Thanks for the support link - I'll see if I can make sense of the info. This is definitely a lot more complicated than I imagined

So what is the error you're getting?? Without knowing the error, it can be 1 of 100,000 things. Typically if you add your dns info to a "newly" registered domain, you don't need to wait very long since any queries go directly to the registrar.

I believe it is a connection error. I get "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" prompted as soon as I type in mysite[dot]com/wp-admin

Ok, have you contacted your hosting companies support? That's not a DNS issue..

I'd recommend contacting them first before any further troubleshooting as they will have access to the site.

    what is the error?
    screen shot?

One thing it could be is you have server space but not enough, the files you uploaded may have taken up your space before all of the wordpress files were loaded. Just a guess without seeing the error code or the website url,or ftp.

Let me know if you have added info, good luck.

"The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading"
That's typically not a DNS issue or nameserver change issue. Seems to just be a coincidence something could have possible been going on with your web host.

Usually you will get a name resolution error.
