Is there a way to block certain user names when people register on your self hosted wp-blog.

Just wondering as i had a new subscriber on mine using admin1 as their username.

They only have subscriber privileges all posts and comments have to approved by me. so they cannot post anything without my permission..

    Hi there,

When you login to your self hosted WP blog, you should see a "Settings Plugins Users" on the right side, somewhere near the top.

    Click on Users.

You can do whatever changes you want there.

If you want to block certain user names, simply make those user names and get a random mix of words for a password (easily available online). On how many variations of the word admin - that I wouldn't know.

Don't worry about the variations. Create a user to assign posts to once a user is deleted. If you want to keep a users posts... just delete the admin1 or whatever combination they come up with and assign their posts to this "catch all posts" user account. This way you don't have to worry about the variations issue.

You can also go a step further, and block the ip they used for the post in your cpanel.
