VPS or shared hosting?

IS it worth getting VPS over shared hosting?

I'm going through hostgator (Unless someone advises otherwise).

I'm only just starting my first web-site. So I'm not too tech savvy :/ Ha-ha.

    For your first (one) site and not having the technical skills - forget VPS. Get a simple shared hosting.

    If/when you get more sites - look into reseller plans before thinking of VPS.

    Yes. VPS is for more advanced users. However, if you have experience with Linux and SSH, VPS would be better solution for your website.

      VPS is for more advanced users when you need more control over your server to install, configure, etc.

      A shared solution might be the best choice because you are not too tech savvy, only starting your first website and its unlikely you need the control. A basic package might be enough for you to start if you don't expect much initial traffic. With hosting you can always upgrade later and most company's will transfer everything free.

      Hostgator is a great hosting company, Arvixe hosting is a good choice too.

    A shared hosting plan is perfect for new websites. When your website grows and begins to receive tons of visitors start to consider a VPS.
