WordPress Backgrounds

This is going to sound stupid however, I am going to ask it anyway. I am looking into using an image for a background on my WordPress site and was looking for information as to the exact size it needs to be in order to fill up the whole background area without having to repeat itself.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

You can try testing it. For a guess, I would say roughly 1400px width by 900px height.

    That's a very bad idea...
    1. You will end up with a huge image (MB size) that will make your site/page to load very slow and behave badly.
    2. You can NOT ever figure out what is the screen resolution of hundreds or thousands of visitors. Which means there is no "exact" size...

I have a couple of things to add in agreement.

      1. Most templates don't provide a transparency option, so even if you could manage to get 1 image to fill the screen, only the edges would show.

      2. Just my personal optinion, but background images just don't look very professional and tend to distract visitors from your content.

The browser window expands depending on the users resolution. That can go really high, like 2560 x 1600 for monitors over 27". If you throw in a background image of that size, it will kill your loading time. So you can do two things: either settle to a wider used resolution like 1280x800 and fill the rest with a color, or do a simple small pattern image on repeat, that would cover all resolutions.

Do you want to use a photograph or an imagedesign that repeats as part of the design background such as a fade and just not have a solid color for the background?

I agree, do not use a photo or a big image. It will look different on all browsers and take up a lot of resources to load.
