How much does it cost to clone a website?

Hi Warriors, this is my first post here. Please excuse me if I've posted this in wrong board or format.

This thread is not about finding somebody to do the project. I just want to double confirm the market price before I move on to start the project.

I would like to clone a website. It has to be almost the same (in terms of features/functions) and I would like to add a few extra features. There are scripts out there but they are not up to my requirements so I wish to clone it from scratch.

I need an idea about the market price of cloning a website. In a freelancer site, I saw a project of cloning Udemy (include license of script & template), the bids ranged from $750 to $1,850. Since Udemy is quite new & complicated, I think the range should be $500 to $1,000, right?

If anyone has experience in developing similar projects, please tell me what you think. You help is much appreciated, thank you.

So just to clarify; you want a developer to code a site from scratch, without using any existing scripts as a starting point, and you think it should be in the $500 - $1,000 range?

Good luck, man. My guys don't even do Wordpress sites for under $4k, and anything with custom development is $8k and up. If you can find people to do quality work for those rates more power to ya, but I don't know very many people who would touch it.

I too agree with this point. You can't expect to clone a site from scratch with the range you have given ; within $1000 range.
To build up this kind of clone from scratch without help of any script, you can expect a range of $5K- $5.5K

What features? What functions ? A simple html site can be cloned for $20 also, and a sophisticated site can be cloned for higher rates. It all depends on the functionality of the website.

Not really. Why couldn't it be $5,000? Just because YOU think so...?

On the other hand: your question is too vague to get a meaningful answer. Unless the developer knows exactly what kind of features and functionality is required, there is nothing to talk about.

Also, don't forget this is the web design forum - you may try your luck in the "Programming Talk"... because features and functions are not part of the visual design.

    Udemy clone from scratch?

This is a massive site, you have no clue what is behind the frontend.

High quality like Udemy with all their functions... $75k+ (and thats a low price)
