I have a site that has "add to cart" keywords taking presentence on the index page. I was wondering if there is anyway in demoting or removing keywords from code without losing the add to cart function.

Thanks,

If the text "Add to Cart" is taking precedence over more important keywords on your site, then your site is simply poorly optimized for those other keywords. Another possibility is that your site is keyword-riddled to the point where Google discounts them as SPAM. Without your URL, it is impossible to say which.

The way to solve your problem is to help Google know what your website is about, that is give them some alternate keywords. Choose the 5 keywords that describe your business to potential customers and work on making them the keywords for your site. Have some pages that don't contain the words "add to cart"

E.g write an info page about Printer cartridges, and how to decide whether genuine brand are better than compatible.
Write a page about your company that talks about Toners.
Get some links to pages that use "printer cartridges", and "toners" as anchor text

You can't just remove it (unless you remove any purchasing from your front page)The solution is to present some other options which will then out weigh the add to cart. But where are you getting the information that this is the major key word?
