No, you can sell as many products as you want using just Paypal buy buttons. That said, a good e-commerce script can provide a lot of useful functionality that you otherwise would not have... but it's definitely not necessary just to make a sale.

If you're just selling one product I would suggest setting up a simple WordPress website and using PayPal. That's all you really need for just one product.

You may only have one product now, so setting up a paypal buy button is easy. From experience though, better to plan for too much than too little. . There are plenty of good scripts out there to choose from with varying degrees of ease in setting up on your site.

You don't need an eCommerce script at all. You can just set-up a Wordpress blog with a nice theme and put a PayPal button on it with the product.

Why this obsession (of many) for setting up a "simple site with WordPress"?

For selling one little product you don't need any WordPress... what a stoopid idea

You need a sales page and a download page + a PP account.

I can make a WP site even in my sleep but for a single product I wouldn't bother even thinking about it. What is way MORE important than WP when making a simple site for selling an infoproduct would be to have a solution for securing your download page - i.e. to make sure it is protected from being found/accessible without going through the payment process.

There are free products and cheap ones (like $7) and more expensive ones with many features.

That is the important thing, not WP. People who are web illiterate think that WP is an answer and panacea for everything - because they don't know better.

Remember: the most important thing about using 'scripts' is the protect your download page, so only buyers can download the product.
