What is the fastest and most effective way of learning CSS?

I prefer to study from home, at my own pace as opposed to going to classes or getting a mentor.

Any good systems out there?

If you are a creative person, you can quickly learn CSS by yourself. Read some tutorials, and try to code everything you read and have fun with it

Fastest...depends on your brains and your interest towards it..understanding css will take minutes, learning will happen when you start implementing and getting experience...You cannot learn "everything" in a specified period of time.. learning is an everlasting process...

Understand the box model and document flow... if you got that, learning by doing is the key.

(I think this thread is another useless one...)

yes very correct and the document algorithm (if that is what doc flow is then yeah). CSS is seriously not hard. Quick tip to become good at designing just start putting together a bunch of layout concepts. BLAM you'll be good after like your 7th or 13th layout. and do more than the home page and remember the homepage is typically suppose to convey the NAV Menu. & try different things, look at other websites and try and implement their layouts.

I think Firebug (on Firefox not Chrome) is the best tool to use while learning CSS. It let's you edit the CSS of any page you want to screw around with. It makes learning so much easier.

And with CSS I feel it's VERY important to understand the basics before moving on to tweaking. I've seen professionals who still don't understand how floating works correctly. If you don't get the basics this is what CSS will be like --->

If you're one of those who like learning by doing, then using Firexfox or Chrome, right-click on a web page and select "Inspect Element" for any object on that page (like text, headings, images, videos etc.) and it will show you the CSS classes and properties assigned to it. Play around for a bit with these and things will fall into place pretty quickly. This is how I learned.

I would learn by trying to answer forum questions. So if someone has a problem with their CSS, try and solve it for them. Most problems you can easily solve in Firebug.

Whatever you do, don't just read. You will learn much faster by doing.

CSS is super easy to learn. Have a look at W3Schools. You can learn how it all works in a couple of days if you put your mind to it. Good luck!
