Are both subdirectories and subdomains essentially the same thing (minus the difference in URL structure - Members.Example.com vs Example.com/members)?

Or are there differences/pros and cons of each?

I want to create a home page/sales page designed in solid HTML/CSS/Java script.

And use WordPress with optimise press, for the member's area...

However, I don't want wordpress, optimisePress, and wordpress databases to load when people hit my homepage or sales page ...b/c I will have a lot of traffic hitting the sales page (and I may want custom things that optimizepress doesn't offer)...

Your thoughts? Thanks so much!

The easiest solution is to create a custom page template using whatever html you want and you can pick and choose which, if any, wordpress elements appear on the page.

That said, subdirectories and subdomains are completely different.

Thanks. How are you able to pick and choose which load and which don't?

Because I wouldn't mind building building the sales page with OptimizePress and customizing it ...I just don't want all my member databases loading, etc.

Would it be a good idea then to install a subdirector or subdomain for the members area (and use wordpress, optimizePress, and DAP)...

And install another fresh wordpress installation/fress OptimizePress in the root folder too...

So when someone visits the homepage it just loads the wordpress install and optimizePress theme installed on the root directory ...without all the member's date, databases, etc that will be taken care of when someone visits (Members.Example.com or Example.com/members)?...

(or is there any easier way to do this and still use optimizePress for the homepage ...without using wordpress or all the databases loading)?

(I'm mainly looking for speed on the homepage ...and also maybe ease of customization)

subdomains are for different websites - link juice and seo benefits don't really transfer between the 2 sites.

subfolders passes on the seo benefits - stick to this method.
