Question on tools

I apologize for a newbie question but I'm just learning. To find information about a part of a webpage what tools are used? ex. I want to delete a icon off a template I am using for my website but do not know where it is. Any response is appreciated.

    Without more information it is hard to advise you on this. It can be in several places. I am replying to this based on the assumption that you are using wordpress?

    The first thing you can do is look in the widgets and see if there is a widget that is placing the content on the page that you want to change.

    If it isn't in the widget, it can be in the post/page itself

    And lastly, if it is actually on a static spot on the page (such as in the header) it may be hardcoded into the template. In that case you will have to look through the template code for the lines that you need to change (/wp-content/themes/xxx where xxx is the theme you are using).
