Is there any free wordpress plugin you recommend for backing up your website & database?

    I use Xcloner, it's free, and it will do anything the paid plugins do.
    The whole site, or just the database.
    Non-Wordpress sites as well.

    BackUpWordPress is a pretty nice one for wordpress backup. It will back up your entire site including your database and all your files on a schedule that suits you. Using the BackUpWordPress plug-in means you have been opting for keeping the back up of your entire site, including that of your website’s database and all other files on a schedule that you select according to your convenience.

    I know you asked for free, but Snapshot from WPMUDev.org is worth the $19. It works like Apple's Time Machine. Backs up everything or you can set it to backup only certain things. Back up to Dropbox, Amazon S3 or via FTP. Easy to set up. Just set it and forget it.

      If you want one more suggestion, I have just starting using UpDraftPlus, which also is free with Dropbox, Google Drive, S3, FTP, etc and so far I like it. I haven't purchased any of the extra modules, but so far I like it.
