Does anyone have experience with Nginx?

Will it give a significant speed increase and/or reduce server resource demands for a Wordpress blog?

    Probably not.

If you're hosting with someone like GoDaddy...

    You're screwed nonetheless.

    Just my two cents.

What matters most is the web host you currently using.I got a shared-hosting plan on a nigix powered sever, the site performance is almost the same as other shared host, like bluehost, hostgator.

I also got a site hosted by wpengine, which loads much faster even there are 10+ plug-in on the site.

This is only something that can be done with a VPS or dedicated server.
There are drawbacks to using it, not just advantages.
It depends on what you need.

nginx much much faster than apache. But there is a learning curve. And I think you run of the mill shared host wont be offering nginx. If you're up for it, get a cheap vps at lowendbox and setup your LEMP environment on it. cheers.

It speeds up the things if you have high traffic or demanding e-commerce website. Otherwise you won't see the difference.

I would recommend evaluating the site first as well as the web host you're using. As KPmedia said, you cannot install it unless you have a virtual server, dedicated etc. Can you give more details on the site?

Webfaction provides Nginx for static files by default. This is with a shared server type account. Pretty fast with wordpress and static files in my testing.
