What are some of the best website builders to create a site for a small business.

Until now, I have only built information-based sites that generate renvenue, but now I've been asked by my employer to build two new websites for their businesses.

Is XSitePro good for this? How about buying a template from Templatemonster.com and using it with Dreamweaver?

Recommendations greatly appreciated!

I've heard that XSitePro is excellent but have never used it. The videos are inspiring enough for me to try it in the near future.

Have you thought of possibly using Artisteer to create a theme and upload it to wordpress?

I'm not familiar with Artisteer, but I'll check it out.

I've only worked with Wordpress.com. How difficult is it to create a nice looking professional site with Wordpress.org?

Actually many hosting services provide one click type installs of Wordpress.

If you have to do it by hand, it's really pretty easy, one of the easier scripts to install that I've used. Just need to create a MySQL database, upload the files, run the install file and your done. Pretty simple.

I like using Wordpress because it's easy to install and easy to use. Easy to use can be more important if it's going to be passed on to some one else to take care of or update, maybe some one that doesn't have much knowledge or experience with "websites". Not to mention there are so many theme's that you can create a professional site pretty quick.

Post here if you need help.

          Ron,

          Thanks for the feedback.

The part I did not get:

Just need to create a MySQL database, upload the files, run the install file and your done. Pretty simple.

I have NO idea what a MySQL database is or how to create one.

What is the advantage of building a site on Wordpress as opposed to a traditional static site for small business website?

Wordpress needs a database to hold the information and settings for the blog, along with the content. Guess you could say it holds all the "stuff" for the blog.

Most hosting packages have a control panel, where you should be able to create a database, a majority have MySQL databases, it's some what the standard. With in your control panel you should be able to create a new database with a couple clicks. Then you just need to have the DB user name and password the database and pulg that into the Wordpress install. It might sound like a alot but once you do it one time you'll see how easy it is. Do you have a control panel with your hosting package?

I guess it depends on what you want to do with the website or what you want the website to do. If you just want a one page site for example, Wordpress is probably over kill, you could just use a template to make something simple.

Now if you want a site that holds some content, is easy for ANYONE to updated and quick to change the layout with a couple clicks, then wordpress might be the best. Wordpress is nice because as I said, it's so easy to update and add content, no matter the users skill level or experience. Also as I mentioned, you can change theme's (layout) so easily. There are TON'S of theme's out there, that make a site look very professional and very easily.

Does this help? Let me know.
