Hi,

What's your favourite code editor?

My favourite code editor is Dreamweaver, Eclipse and Geany.
Dreamweaver is part of Adobe’s application suite targeted at web designers/developers.
It provides support only for the most popular web languages – PHP, ASP.NET, JavaScript, HTML, CSS.

Notepad++ because I don't like to fight Dreamweaver over how to do things.

Dreamweaver is the best one but Notepad++ is user friendly and very easy to use.

I'm using Aptana Studio 3 atm, but I also have Notepad++ installed in case Aptana ticks me off (it has, IMHO, a horrible project management system...)

It's 100% free, based off of Eclipse, and doesn't nag you after your 'free' license expires like Sublime Text 2 does...not to mention it has updated HTML5 and CSS3 recognition that Sublime didn't when I was using it.

I'm a Sublime Text 2 User as well. It's a favorite of web designers and developers the world over.

In the past I started with dreamweaver but found that the code became bloated when using the visual editor. The program as a whole take a bunch of system resources as well which I didn't like.

After leaving Dreamweaver behind I used Notepad++ for a majority of code editing. But really fell in love with Textmate and Coda (Not Free & Mac only for both these)

I often work on both a mac and pc and being that Sublime comes in both PC and Mac flavors was a big deciding factor in making the switch.

Sublime has a downright gorgeous interface and with the backing of the web dev community, offers a number of integrations for the advanced users. But if you're not advanced you'll fall in love with the simplicity that it provides.

If you're just getting started with or would like to give Sublime Text a go, I'd heartily recommend NetTuts Perfect Workflow In Sublime Text 2 by Jeffrey Way. It's a free course and offers more than enough to satiate the appetite of beginners and advanced users as well.

I keep coming back to Sublime Text. Really good all-around programmers text editor. I like to try the new and shiny stuff, but usually those tools just don't stick.

      Hi Roger,
      I'm using Geany editor.
Geany is a small and lightweight Integrated Development Environment. It was developed to provide a small and fast IDE, which has only a few dependencies from other packages.

Visual Studio (for ASP.NET, C# and MVC). I completely rebuilt my website last weekend, but it worked first time in the browser after the rebuild. Hats off to Microsoft for building a product in which you can trap so many bugs before releasing code.

The best and oldest and most relevant code editor is Emacs. The reason is because it is universal. Emacs is like a chameleon. You can use it as an IDE for python, java, c, c++, ruby, lisp, arduino, pearl, php, javascript, swift etc

You do not have to install multiple IDE's on your pc. When you install Emacs, you have everything you need. I forget to mention that it is cross os compatibility. You can also do some cool stuffs like task management, real email, use it for a web server, play chess, teris, physiotherapist etc By the way, it is free. Free as in Freedom, Free as in Richard M Stallman, Free as in you can learn Lisp and modify emacs to create you text editor. Can you do all this with any code editor on this earth?

The only disadvantage is that you have to invest time to learn it.

It has a lot of great functionality and it is extensible. You can tweak it the way you want. It was developed using lisp. Lisp is an advance core programming language developed for artificial intelligence research at MIT. For any questions, feel free to contact me. Cheers.

    Happy Weekend
