My ever-reliable Word Press theme is Thesis. I find it the easiest way to manage and tweak my WordPress designs. It can easily improve your site's SEO as well.

  • I'm a web designer and recommend Genesis over Thesis any day. I've worked with both and find Genesis to be far superior...here is an article that you should check out Thesis Vs. Genesis (No BS - Reviews and Comparison Chart). Affiliate marketer Rae Hoffman discusses why she finally made the switch from Thesis to Genesis.

I always use one of the WordPress.org hosted and developed themes and create a child theme based on one of them. That is in my opinion the best basis for developing a website for any niche.
Installation of a custom header image is simple and will set a site apart from the crowd.

      Twenty Ten

      Twenty Eleven

      Twenty Twelve

      Twenty Thirteen

You can use custom a page template for any needed "squeeze" or "sales" pages.

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

I too recommend Genesis as well. Not a big fan of the themes actually on Studio Press by default as far as style, but there very developer/designer friendly so you can really get in and change just about anything. Genesis is also very SEO friendly. There are also alot of premium themes on Themeforest that are too, it all just depends on the style you require and the flexibility. Some are really good, some really bad. Make sure you look at documentation of the theme to see some of its flexibility as well as look at feedback on it.

The theme you choose depends on your niche.
For me, I am using Blix : A Killer Wordpress Theme for your profitable blogs for all of my personal blogs and money sites.

If you'd like a free one, I would always recommend wordpress default themes with some tweaks.

If you have simple space problems, stay away of thesis and genesis.

Look for themeforest, sort by sales, purchase a template that have 4 to 5 stars, read the comments and see how fast the support reply to the requests and purchase only the onas that have a fast support reply.

I'm using my own theme, I don't like using themes from other sources because theme made by me always be unique and when I need to edit some parts on site, it will be easier.

I hope it's okay to post a question inside this thread, instead of starting my own. Since this thread is exactly on topic, can I ask what everyone thinks of my new free Wordpress templates site - freewpthemes.ws

Any comments would be really appreciated. We offer free Wordpress templates, that anyone can download and use. I've tested them out, and they seem to work great.

Would any one here consider using one of these for their own Wordpress blog? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much

I have been using Genesis since last two years and have seen tremendous increase in its popularity and functionality.

I like it just because its easy to extend using the custom hooks, its easy to redesign, comes with lots of free "premium" like plugins and you get hands on one of the most secured wordpress theme framework ever built.

"Genesis is among those framework which has been verified from security experts and wordpress core developer Mark Jaquith to be the most secured framework for wordpress users." Source :: Genesis Theme Review : Redesign Website With Ease - WPVKP

You can also consider using mythemeshop as their themes are also user friendly and you get great support.
