Need help with website redesign, budget is tight

So I was talking to my brother who is a contractor and he paid a guy a fortune (he says) to build a website. Then the guy flaked out and disappeared. The site sucks, some say the worst website they ever saw. And I can't disagree with them. It is no wonder he gets no leads from it. I would like to change that for him, so I am trying to find out how much it would cost to get a redesign.

Colin Pears Construction

I don't need to know how bad it looks, we all know that. I need to know who wants to redesign this for the most reasonable price?

You can find plenty of designers here who do good work at affordable prices for other warriors. There are also several freelance websites that allow you to post a project and then people will bid for the work.

I would find out how well it ranks and how many visitors its getting. UGLY sites do sell just as good as flashy sites as they get the points across quicker.

    Thanks

This guy is just looking for cheap labor, and is not serious about the web design project. Get roped into the project for peanuts if you want. You will have a terrible experience, because such "customers" have no design notes or goals written, and will expect you to work on vague desires with ignorant expectations. Good luck if you get roped into it...

A bit harsh! Very offputting comment. I didn't realise that a customer had to have design notes and goals, so that's me off to another platform for website quotes. I have an idea what I want but certainly don't have notes.

Are you serious, or trolling? Harsh, how?

You didn't realize that you needed to convey thoughts in a meaningful way, in order to be understood fully? What kind of moron does not have notes on their own 'business' ? I mean, is the world that lazy today, that people can't be arsed to take down some simple information to bring it to a developer? Is your 'idea' important to you? And what does "so that's me off to another platform for website quotes" mean?

You seem to be trying to refute what I stated, but are proving me right with your own statements. Lets be really frank here; Nobody in ANY business, likes to deal with troublesome customers. In any way, shape, or form! So what developer in their right mind would want to work with some imbecile who has "ideas" but no notes, forcing the developer to do more work in hand holding said imbecile through their own contrived idea?

Also how is this "offputting"? Have you altered your desire for a website now that you are faced with reality? Is this some comment to make me think "oh no, a potential customer has fallen through the cracks!", or feel somehow responsible for altering your perceptions of web design in a negative way?

I can easily say to that, what I have said to others with similar contentions:
"Someone who has no respect for the trade is not a desired customer. So losing a sale to one is actually a good thing. Cheap, clueless, unprepared, and entitled people will cost more than they are worth by about 2 to 3 times. So by all means, please look elsewhere."

I don't want to hijack the thread, but you left me with no choice but to respond to such an insane statement.

If anything, people need to be more educated on the reality of web design, so that these bad customer types are all but eliminated from the job pool. The OP had their own agenda which was toxic, your own is just as bad to developers out there. Somebody needs to take a stand and say; "enough is enough". Either educate yourself before purchases, or don't make them. you save the economy and development market a lot of headache that way...

    Hi Tim,

I'm a small business website designer, who understands to get your business off the ground budget is very small to begin with, but we know you need to start somewhere like everyone else.

Based the UK, I run my web design business 'Fully Creative' in the East Midlands.
We offer flexible website solutions, which don't cost the earth - but great professional looking website designs.
Fully Creative also supports monthly payments for your website, no big one off fee's / charges to begin with, a complete payment plan which works for you, from just web design, or a hosting solutions fit to you where you don't have to pay 12 months, you can pay month by month.

My website is Fully Creative which shows all that we offer and a portfolio of the sites we have created!

    I hope this helps?

That's a red light for me, treating us like cheap labor ...

Webdesign as a comodity, that's really not good

I wonder if he had to have a heart surgery, would he ask a surgeron to get the most reasonable price or the best surgeron ?

Anyway that's the kind of customers that stay on the other side of my red ribbons, i'm only working with customers that want great website that convert and that really push their brand to the customers they want.

You have what you pay for, want a specialist, pay the price.

I would consider helping out but the "reasonable price" statement is off putting. If you want something reasonably priced, purchase a template and replace the logo and content in the template.

That's right, maybe you can use your themeforest affiliate link... then at least you get a small commission ;-)
