Secure web host access question

Hi guys,

Just want your opinions on security for the following:

I have been 'hosting' a website for someone else as a subdomain on my own personal web hosting account - pro bono, only I have cpanel access. They now have a new web host (thank god!) and want to migrate the site to the new web host.

I'm totally fine with this, but want it to be as secure as possible for me, I don't know anything about the new web host.

I have a reseller account with hostgator and am happy to create their own separate cpanel and move the site to that cpanel for them, that way they don't have access to my personal cpanel and directory. I've asked for them to change the DNS info to the new reseller name server details.

The new web host has now asked for:

"FTP access and put an export of the SQL DB into the FTP folder"

I'm not comfortable with them having FTP access. I know I can create a new user for them and only have access to the files placed there, but it still makes me nervous.

I would prefer for them to make the DNS changes, so I can complete the separate cpanel for them on my reseller account, and then they can migrate the site from the new cpanel.

Which is the most secure option of the two?

Happy to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,
Kristy

DO NOT give out the details. What they'll do is copy your site to the new server.
You need to manually give this person a backup, since it's a subdomain.

    It's NOT -- repeat NOT -- a standard migration.

      Thanks kpmedia, appreciate it.

What I want them to do is change the current DNS info of their domain (which is that of my personal web host account) to the details of my reseller DNS. I've already given them the new DNS info and asked for them to do this.

Once this is done, I can create their own separate cpanel and move their site to that location. They can then migrate the site themselves to their new web host and change the DNS info to that of their new web host.

Out of interest, how would I give them a manual backup? I only deal with them online, not face to face.

      Thanks

Also, I meant to say that it is an add-on domain, not a subdomain.

It should be easy for me to move an add-on domain to their own cpanel on my reseller hosting account, shouldn't it?

    Cheers,
    Sissy
