New website redo question

I am going to redo my website. I will add a new theme and add a lot more content and a few other plugins etc..

It is on WP. I created a new folder and will create the new one there. When I am done I will transfer it over. Is there any problems with that? I mean will it be seamless or will it effect my rankings on Google?

OR would it be better to just add a different theme and things inside my main folder and just add content slowly?

    I have done a similar procedure when I converted an html site to wordpress for a client. What I did is i kept both version and just did a 301 redirect from the html version to the wordpress page. I don't think it will have significant impact SEO-wise, I could be wrong though.

    After you transfer, just make sure to 301 redirect to the new WP location.
