Website Hosting Space and Bandwidth

This probably isn't the right forum for asking this, but I couldn't work out the best place to put this post.

Is there a way of finding out how much server resources a website uses if you don't have access to the site?

I'm asking on behalf of a contact who runs an active forum, that is hosted by a one man band type host. They have fallen out and the site needs its own dedicated server.

Problem is, without knowing how much resources it uses I don't know what size of server we are looking at.

I need the "who is" of server resources. Is there such a thing?

Thanks

What software do they plan on using for the site?

    How many daily visitors?

    How many posts per day?

Visitors and posts I might have access to as I'm a moderator.

The site runs Wordpress on the front end and vBulletin for the forum.

I think I was hoping there was a website I could go to that would tell me the resources used. Probably a forlorn hope.

Unless the site has a high volume of traffic, any entry level dedicated server should be adequate. Just make sure you get a managed server. If your traffic ends up overloading the server, most if not all hosts will move to a larger server quickly, not so much the other way.

You might consider a cloud VPS. Start on the small end of resource allocation, and if needed you can turn up the dial on those easily and quickly.

Not really. In this case, it's similar to the domain value estimating tools - it's just a guess.

Without access to raw server logs & bandwidth, CPU etc graphs, there's really not a way you can tell what it uses.
