recommend me targeted promotion means

hi there,

I work for an European company (so I'm only interested in advertising in Europe only) that's specialized in industrial data loggers (temperature, humidity, CO2, etc type of measuring and detection devices).

I've been hired to handle the marketing and promotion of our (proprietary) products, but I am a bit clueless (I have very little experience with marketing, and even less good results with it tbh) about how to do it properly.

So, I would like to ask you what the best ways to promote our (narrow niched?) products is, besides press releases which - for a reason not known or understood by myself - is not to the liking of our company's manager.

Our budget is pretty tight at the moment (I would say $100 a month, besides of Adwords where we spend $500-600 a month) and we would like to (actually, we NEED to) look into other means of advertising/promotion as lately adwords has become less effective (reasons unknown yet, but we're looking into it).

So yeah, long story short, anybody knows of any effective yet cheap online method of connecting to our targeted audience (other companies that would eventually become dealers for our products)? What do you recommend (besides press releases) for attracting such dealers that you know works and it's $100 or less. Classifieds? Lead generation? Anything else?

If you have an idea or 2 and can share it, please let me know. You can even recommend affiliate links for services if you know good ones in our industry, I don't mind. I just ask that they're serious and effective. Our products are good and they're also cheaper than our competitor's. Yet, we struggle getting dealers for them. We also know there is a market for these devices, so they should sell (and they do actually, just not in big chunks as we're hoping).

TIA and I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

I recommend promoting your site through social networks and by doing link building, if the niche is specified, you can rank easily.

Well, link building is an option and we thought about it, but our website is a total mess (broken links everywhere, faulty search function, ugly design, etc.) These factors will not help our site too much (probably), but I am considering this option a lot lately...

And social networks seems like a bad idea. I don't see people in our industry staying on twitter and facebook all day long to chat But then again, I am not an expert on either social media or marketing, so I'm not sure. Actually, I will look into this. I've read somewhere (don't remember where) that facebook ads work for some industries (dentists, lawyers). They might work for us, too if done properly.

Oh well, thanks for the tips. Keep'em coming. I'll compile a list of your suggestions and then research more about each option and see what we will go with and what we'll drop.

With your limited budget, I'd consider setting up an affiliate program. If you know what you're doing this can be achieved quite cheaply. You can then contact industry webmasters and encourage them to promote your products. This, done well, will give you a quick boost of laser-targeted traffic. Aside from that, grab yourself an AdCenter coupon, and begin driving leads with that. I would suggest hiring an SEO but $100 a month won't cut it. My own agency starts at £500 a month just to retain us for SEO. What you could do, though, is go after low-hanging fruit phrases with great content. Even knowing very little about SEO, you'll see great long-term results. Be sure, also, to look into social networks. Just don't piggy-back off other pages, groups, communities, etc. Make your own and grow them. I could give you a hundred suggestions but these ones are pretty key and should be looked into first.

setting up an affiliate program >>>>>> sounds good.

contact industry webmasters and encourage them to promote your products >>>>>>>>>>> contact how?? That's exactly what I'm aiming to do, but I can't seem to find those crucial dealers that are vital for a company like ours.

grab yourself an AdCenter coupon >>>>>>> awesome. I didn't think about it. Thanks!

And speaking of AdCenter coupons, do you happen to have one? I know that I can google such things, but asking never hurts

I would suggest hiring an SEO but $100 a month won't cut it >>>>> yeah...

go after low-hanging fruit phrases with great content >>>>>> this, I was aware of (and was planning to do), but I was wondering, won't our faulty website hurt our SEO efforts more than help us? I mean, our website is not working 100% of the time, google webmaster tools returns dozens of "404 not found" and "can't access" types of errors (there's broken links everywhere and to make things worse the whole site is put on DotNetNuke, which is very hard to understand and fix for someone like me who only used WP his entire life). The design is also awful, and if this doesn't impact the SEO it surely will impact the conversions, no matter how well and in-need our products are.

Be sure, also, to look into social networks >>>>> yeah, someone else told me this earlier on this thread and I will consider this option as well, but I ain't pro at social media (and I even dislike it entirely). So, I'll really need to research more about this method (so I can do it properly, without spamming, etc.) before committing to it

I could give you a hundred suggestions but these ones are pretty key and should be looked into first >>>>> agreed! Thanks a million for the suggestions. If using any of these we manage to attract, I don't know, 10 dealers (one for each of the top 10 countries in Europe) that will buy 20-30 of our products each year, then we can call this SUCCESS

Again, thanks for the nice recommendations!

        You're welcome, monere.

Will just address some of your replies.

And speaking of AdCenter coupons, do you happen to have one? I know that I can google such things, but asking never hurts

        I'm afraid I don't, but you're right. You don't ask, you don't get.

won't our faulty website hurt our SEO efforts more than help us?

Hard to say without looking at it. What I suggest, given your website has problems, is forget everything else for now EXCEPT your website. Think if it like your products. Your products are perfect; your website needs to be perfect (or as perfect as possible). Once your site is ready, THEN you want to begin growing traffic channels. I would offer one of my designers to you, but I know we're booked until March. If your firm can stretch to web design, I'd be happy to speak to an agency or two on your behalf. I outsource a great deal and receive discounts. If it helps you, I'd be happy to do so.

yeah, someone else told me this earlier on this thread and I will consider this option as well, but I ain't pro at social media (and I even dislike it entirely). You're obviously a clever chap, so learning how to grow a presence on social platforms won't be a stretch. Highly recommend you do so. Key is having your own platforms. My own range from x,xxx to xxx,xxx in size and I have many for different markets. Once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder how you lived without them.

Best of luck. Sounds like you've got your work cut out but at least it's a fun project to get your teeth into!
