I applied for a network, and I noticed that I get paid every time someone clicks my affiliate link? And then in addition to that, I earn a chunk if they purchase the product as well?

Is this true? I feel like there is some catch I'm not seeing. Why isn't everyone doing CPA then, if this isn't a trick? It seems a million times better than SEO, where you have to actually get a sale to make money.

No, you do not earn money every time they they click on your link. That's the ad sense model (PPC) -- the money comes from those paying for adwords.

You earn money when someone perform an action -- like fill out their email or purchase a trial offer.

You might get pay $1 for an email submit. The assumption is -- if 1,000 people submit an email, at least a high percentage might buy the product; thus, they're able to pay you $1 (a portion of the money goes to the advertiser, the cpa network, and then you).

You can even earn more than that. For instance, Joe or Jill might sign up for an **** berry or Cho Yung tea trial, but gets hidden charges of $9.95/month. Thousands of people will suffer from the same fate...and you as the publisher will get pay like $30 a lead just for this.

Now, is that safe or not? In way, it feels a bit unethical if you're using questionable methods of promotion. It depends on what you promote and how you promote it. Some do it the right and honest way (white hat), while some use sneaky dishonest tactics (B.lk hat). The latter runs the risk of having your account terminated.

CPA is like affiliate marketing -- both require skills to market and sell. It takes skills to test your campaigns, and to scale your budget. You may lose a lot of money or make a lot of money, but most likely, there will be many fail campaigns.

If it was easy, everyone online would be doing CPA, make tons of money, and live happily ever after.

Wait, what do you mean by "lose money"?

Is there some hidden fee or something?

I'm trying to do CPA using only free methods (blogger, etc.)

CPA networks are free to join. They make money when you do.

By losing money, I mean there is a "risk" everytime you pay for advertising.

If you pay $30 on a PPC network, it's possible you still might not get sign ups/leads for your campaign.

That's what I meant. To reduce the risk, you increase your knowledge and experience.

So, you can always start with free methods.

    1) Start a blog -- using blogger, wordpress, or other websites.
    2) Blog about certain topics relating to your CPA offers.
    3) Promote the blog through Youtube, article directories, forum signature, or blog commenting...basically, using SEO methods to boost the ranking of your blog for certain keywords relating to your CPA offers.

As you gain more experience using free methods, you might make a good amount of sales. After that, you may reinvest the money for paid traffic -- and that might come with a risk of losing money if you do not track what's working or not.

Or, just stick with free methods -- it's just a matter of time vs. money.
