PPC banned on an offer

Hey guys,

As an affiliate, how would you feel about PPC being banned on an offer?

I'm talking about DIRECT promotion to an offer here. Promoting your own review site, for example, is OK.

Is this a big "no no"? I am asking because I want to put a product on a CPA network, but I already make good money advertising it through PPC myself.

Thanks for your opinions!

To clarify, you want to put an offer on a CPA network but don't want to allow ppc advertising because you are already doing it?

If that is the case I'd advise you to not follow that route for 2 reasons:

    1) CPA network affiliates are big on ppc and you will exclude a ton of affiliates (the one's that do most volume)

    2) Unless you are spending $100k/day then you will still benefit from having other people promote using ppc. There are a ton of traffic sources out there, no need to have a scarcity mentality as you don't have the budget to buy it all up. That's just my 2 cents.

Now if you want to prevent people from using the actual domain as display url (in adwords), thats not as bad as tons of advertisers do that. I still wouldn't suggest you preventing people from direct linking or banning ppc all together.

I agree. Many, many affiliates (including myself) have PPC as their main traffic source. The guys who do a lot of volume are the ones using paid traffic sources (PPC, PPV and midia buys), and you will stop many of them from promoting your offer by not allowing PPC.

Also, just because you are doing well with PPC it doesn't mean that you are getting 100% of the traffic available with this model. There are many PPC platforms, keywords and approaches that can be used to promote an offer, so you will certainly leave a lot of money on the table if you don't allow your affiliates to use PPC.

Run it by your AM to get total clarification, the last thing I'd want to see you do is dump a bunch of money then have it taken away

Actually, I'm an advertiser, not an affiliate
