150 Sales on Teespring

After several tests on Teespring and Facebook interest targeting, I finally got 150 sales. This just proves that Facebook interest targeting really works. I just find it hard to get custom audiences approved recently, and it's difficult to scale up since you have a limited number of audience. With interest targeting, you have a large audience that you can scale up after you get a few sales with your test campaigns. Please share your campaigns as well so everybody could learn.

Congrats...but you didn't share anything that anyone could learn from.

The key is targeting. I see that the most effective teespring/Facebook campaigns right now are name targeting, sports team targeting and profession targeting.

I just wanted to reiterate that interest targeting works, since there were a lot of concerns about custom audiences getting rejected and Facebook accounts getting banned. I actually just did basic targeting with this campaign. Perhaps I just found a good niche and have designed a nice shirt.

        Very good job! Congrats.

I am also using interest and I am breakeven.

I was wondering how big was your audience? Mine are usually very low so I don't get that many sales. After a while most have seen the ad before and I see the conversions stops.

In the beginning I usually have most sales.

The most so far was 42 sales.

Edit: I saw the shirts you have in the link of you signature. But I guess you aren't allowed use a logo of a company, it's a trademark infringement isn't it?

My audience is around 300k. I agree that the conversions decrease as you reach the entire audience. I also started with small niches with around 10,000 to 20,000 audience. You should keep an eye on your ads frequency. It will tell you if your ad was served to a specific user more than once.

Another good thing that I discovered is that Teespring runs their own Facebook campaign to retarget people who viewed your shirt campaign. You will know this because you'll see the ad yourself on your timeline or right hand side.

Edit: It's supposed to be for my fellow IBM mates since I used to work in IBM before. The first two campaigns went well, but the third one was flagged for copyright violations. So I dropped it since.

It's the same as CPM, it just has a statistics of how much you paid for each conversion...it's not like it won't charge you if you don't make any sales.

Facebook optimizes your ads for you if you use oCPM. Facebook knows best so just let them optimize your campaigns.

Me too. I'm not getting enough traffic with manual bidding!

I'll play a little bit more with oCPM, as what you said makes sense!

As for likes and shares and comments, I had one campaign recently, people were crazy with comments/shares/likes.
It was like "I need this", "gotta get this", "this is for me", "awesome", and so on...

It tipped, but only about 30ish sales, and spent too much on ads, as the engagement was huge. Ended almost with no profit..And that's with very low CPM.

                Just listen to PPC-Coach
Test and just discard the ones that are not giving good results.
It's what I done with these two campaigns.
I ran 4 of them, and discarded the 2 which were spending more than earning. It's easy and simple as that!

But hey, it's all trial and error I suppose, isn't it?
Then it might be the price? Or the sales copy on your teespring page? Also, are you adding more colors to your shirt campaign? The shirt design might be great but not all people like black or blue. Provide them more color options to choose from. But yes, just keep trying! Not all my campaigns are successful. I think I'm getting 1 successful campaign for every 3 to 4 campaigns that I launch!

But, how do you create a shirt for a team without running into copyright laws? I have a Storefront on teespring (https://teespring.com/stores/outlier) but I have never created a shirt for a sports team. I thought you couldn't with all the copyright laws etc.

Congrats, I hope you don't mind sharing, I have only 3 question that's all! Because I've tried several times my clicks were 8c, pretty cheap but couldn't work up, no sales after 80 clicks. Not sure what's goes wrong, if my design or what.

I wanted to ask, did you use news feed?
    Is the design really outstanding?
Also are you designing by trends, your question could help me a lot thanks!

      - Yes, I always use newsfeed ads. I'm not seeing conversions on right hand side ads.
      - I design it myself. I'm using Photoshop.
      - Yes, I research for trends before creating a campaign.

The bad thing with smaller audiences that I'm seeing is that it seems to take forever and a day just for someone to see the ad. Trying to reach at least the 20 or 25 mark, let alone the 150 mark. If you have some tips, please do share, or you can PM me instead.

I've tried targeting small niches before. I was able to reach my goal (minimum shirts) but it's not possible to scale it up. So I'm now into large niches. Let me just remind you that your Facebook ads still need to be laser targeted. You need to find large niches. I didn't mean that you need to broaden your Facebook targeting. Hope this makes sense!

Let me just add, that's not a huge audience, it's just about 32k/ one country!

It's doing great, hope it will continue that way.
The CTR dropped to 16% from yesterday.
Sales are about 30 shirts for about $70 spent on ads, since midnight last night (local time).

I tipped it yesterday I think, that one and on another campaign

The whole Teespring thing is awesome. I'm addicted to watching my FB campaign stats sort of like how someone would watch the stock market.

I haven't succeeded at any campaigns yet and have failed at a few. Whatever, I think that's normal. I'm still going though.

Basically I'm trying to find hungry consumers who are really into certain niches. I'm trying to target consumers that haven't really been bombarded with T-shirt ads (this is getting harder).

Could someone please recommend the best strategy for CPC/CPM optimization? Clicks to website? Website conversion? oCPM or oCPC?

I've just been using page-post engagement with a fan page and I've been seeing CTR's above 5% but mediocre sales Sales are all that matter!

Hahaha! I'm addicted to it as well! I used to refresh my teespring browser and Facebook stats to see if I get any sales. LOL Anyway, I had sales with post engagement campaigns as well. But in my experience, I get more sales with website conversion campaigns. It's also easier to optimize website conversion campaigns since your goal here is to make sales, not post engagements (likes, shares, etc.).

I ran CPM and got nice results but you must be careful with it.
It can burn through the budget easily

    Need to try oCPM again.
How do you test a campaign with oCPM?
Do you go to a certain amount, as with the CPC?

Grrrrr! Had to vent.. have a shirt that's getting all the Likes in the world, and even more so, Shares with comments that are showing a bunch of people Want my shirt and that they plan to buy it, or saying they gotta get this, or they're buying this for their sons, and so on.. but no sales so far. I guess what frustrates me is that while it's great to see Shares and Likes that show my shirt is desired, there's absolutely NO way for me to be able to contact any of these Shares and Likes to remind each person to buy the shirt when it's close to ending. It's like seeing money on a table in front of you yet you can't even reach out to grab it at all. All of this resulting from a PPE campaign. The link is there clearly for them above the fold, the call to action clear as day, but people are comment happy but still not buying it. lol

You'll get people who comment like that. My 9 year old son was looking over my campaigns and saw a lady that commented: "I want to buy this shirt." My son said to himself, "Then buy it!"

You'll get that. A lot of them won't buy however. It's normal. They might like the shirt, but it's not a motivating factor for them and the price might be too high. Oh well, it's not for them. The key is to reply to all comments as well as like all comments. Also, post a comment everyday, and 3-5 on the last 1 or 2 days for reminders.

Thanks for the insight JCorp, I appreciate that, and I agree with your son... smart man! Lol! I say the same thing when I see them, telling my wife, "if you are going to get it, why not get it NOW" lol. I do tend to comment on the people's comments regardless of what they may be. Sadly, I wish that whenever I posted a new comment to the post itself, that everyone gets a notification of it like you would on your own timeline, but the fan page doesn't work quite the same.

I used my personal FB account to like my other account's fan page post just to test that out. The only way I get notifications is if I post a comment and the fan page replies to it. But if I use my personal FB to like the other fan page's post, and I make the fan page post a new comment, then my personal FB never gets a notification. Would be great if everyone who Liked or Commented on the post gets a notification whenever someone posts or Likes, much like our regular timelines. Guess FB decided that wasn't helpful to allow it to work the same? Yeah, too much potential social networking there for their taste I suppose? lol

LOL. It probably happens a lot of times. People think of buying things, they like them and are interested but back off at the last moment. This could be because the motivation or desire to buy was not great enough, certainly not greater than the internal hesitation/resistance to spend money I guess.

You should be commenting on your campaigns and replying to their comments as well. I sometimes post a comment like "8 shirts left! Buy now!", then I'll see boost in sales in a few hours. Also, I believe Teespring runs their own campaign to re-target your audience. So if you have a really good campaign, you should not worry about reminding them to buy since Teespring is already doing this. By the way, what niche are you in? You might have chosen the wrong niche.

Hey Global, I do comment on their comments because I know they'll receive the message. The thing I wish is that when I post a comment to the post itself, that everyone who Liked and Commented would also see that one. But that's sadly not the case. When you post the comment about "8 shirts left", do you Edit the Main Post, or do you post a comment to the post for people to see?

It's good to know that Teespring runs their own campaign as well to retarget, so there's a bit of a chance of some extra sales from it. Still trying to find that "magic niche" and targeting and design to be one of those people that has 215/30 or something great! Still not there yet but still doing what I can to hopefully get there. lol

My successful campaigns were two named shirts (11/10 and 9/10 which tipped and then had a return), and a beauty niche shirt my wife designed that recently tipped with 15/13 (we lowered the goal as it was 20 originally).

All other shirts seem to get only 1 or 2 sales or no sales, with the exception of one other shirt right now that is now at 5/10 at this time.

The other niche I have has no sales yet but lots of Likes and Comments of people looking to buy them. So hopeful some of those will convert into sales. Someone suggested that I email them from my personal account though not sure how that would look. If I could use custom audiences, I would scrape the UIDs of those that Liked and Commented and Shared and then set up an ad for them with a scarcity setup.

Oh well, living and learning and still hopeful to find those Winning campaigns!

Perhaps it has something to do with your shirt design? I usually ask 2 to 3 of my friends if my shirt design stands out. And it should be something I would want to wear myself even if it's not directly related to me. The thing is the shirt design that looks good in your opinion, might not appeal to others...

That's just the thing though, with this shirt in particular, I've had many comments on it that they love it and gotta have it. Lol, maybe they're just waiting til tomorrow to get some of them, Friday is pay day after all. Lol! I know the shirt design is good based on the positive feedback I got. But hey, it's all trial and error I suppose, isn't it?

I guess what frustrates me is that while it's great to see Shares and Likes that show my shirt is desired, there's absolutely NO way for me to be able to contact any of these Shares and Likes to remind each person to buy the shirt when it's close to ending. It's like seeing money on a table in front of you yet you can't even reach out to grab it at all. All of this resulting from a PPE campaign. The link is there clearly for them above the fold, the call to action clear as day, but people are comment happy but still not buying it. lol
yea, I got 147 likes, 17 shares and 1 sale - it is frustrating.

That's why you should always aim for conversions since that is our main goal here - to make sales! There are actually some campaigns that do not get much post engagements but do get a lot of sales... Here's one example of my campaigns. It only has 4 likes and 4 shares but it has already 3 sales:

If people love it and have to buy it, do they click through then see the price and don't?

My advice is simple, treat every teespring like a one night stand. Get in, get what you want and get out. If you can't close the deal, who cares, put up 2 more campaigns with 2 more designs.

New people get way too hung up ONE thing. "My ONE shirt didn't work". Screw one. Go for 100 tries instead.

Sometimes the moon and stars just don't align and it fails. But you only fail when you stop trying.

    @global

On that particular campaign was only 1 color.
It wasn't about it. It was just the audience that likes and shares it, but nobody buys it.
There always will be such audiences, and the key is to recognize it and just drop the campaign and move on.

global - how long before you decide its not worth it to continue buying traffic for a shirt? after $20 spent? $50? $100?

It might be your chosen niche. If it doesn't work after tweaking the ads. Just drop it and move on. You're not married to any campaign!

It depends on my profit per shirt. So if I'm earning $12 per shirt, I would spend $12 on the first day to test if I can make a sale. If not, I will check the CTR and post engagements (likes, shares, etc.) if it's worth another try. If the CTR and post engagements were extremely low, I would stop the campaign.

If I'm getting decent CTR and post engagements, I would optimize the ads and run it for another day to see if I can get a sale. If still no sales on the second day after tweaking the ads, I would stop the campaign completely. Hope this helps!

My page has around 20 likes. The likes on the page wouldn't really matter since I'm doing a website conversions campaign. So the moment they click on my ad, they will be redirected to my Teespring campaign.

Yes, definitely look for the hot trends. I often look for some ideas from the Teespring bestsellers here: Explore T-shirts, Campaigns and Designs | Teespring

I normally go for audiences around 300k to 500k so I can scale it up. But I also consider small niches with around 20k to 80k audience if it's hot. I use both post engagement and website conversions campaigns.

Thanks man. Just don't give up.
First things first, when you come up with an idea of something, do a research.
I check if somebody had done it already and is someone doing at the moment.
Don't copy someones design, as you may end banned from teespring.
Most important I check is there and how huge is the audience for that.

Make yourself 5 designs in 5 similar niches, take $100 and test.
Put a daily budget to $100+ and monitor the ads for the first $20
If it's earning more then spending, good....if not, drop it!
However, it may be earning, and then just stop after a few sales....just monitor it.

Now I'm on more than 300 with about $1000 spent so far.

It's all about scaling it up if it's doing good.
You can't hit high numbers if you limit your budget to $30-50 daily.
My max budget was about EUR 200 (~$276) daily. I sometimes lower it, then get it back and so on...
I managed to get about $670 of profit in 24h, 2 days ago, running that and another campaign that isn't doing that great, but it's still earning.

And yup, that's exactly what happened to me with two of my campaigns... started off on a fast pace and then STOP. More likes and comments but no dice on any further sales so far. Only a day or two left for them also.

I replied to your PM too by the way.

I am today into my 4th day of the campaign. The budget for the first day was $5, for the second also $5 and for the third $20. I sold 2 shirts. One on the second, and one on the third day. The audience size is 186,000 people.

Looks like an "OK" campaign... some people would kill it, but I'd "play around" with it a bit.

Did you track conversions? Take a screenshot of all your demographics, age/gender, conversions, etc. and then maybe we can get a better overall picture here.

But for me, I'd play around with it, maybe throw another $10 to $15 at it... and hope to get another sale or two... then I'd tweak the ads to target those who are buying.

One thing that has me confused is the reach and $ spent on ad #2 vs. ads 1 & 3.

Should I scale up #2 and stop 1&3?

I think you are on the right track. You simply need to optimize your ads now. Scale up the ads that generate conversions and stop the ones that didn't perform well.

Those are the sales that probably came from shares or sales that came from Teespring's own retargeting campaign.

Your ad number 2 looks promising considering the CTR and one conversion. But I would leave both ads 1 and 2 since the ad number 1 also generated 1 conversion, then you can stop ad number 3.

That's awesome! What size audience are you targeting? I just ran a campaign targeting a mere 6000 people but managed a 300% ROI and sold around 30 hoodies, but have had trouble trying to scale up with bigger (and less targeted) audiences.

I guess I need to keep trying with larger audiences and find a niche that can sustain a 100%+ ROI over 100k+ audience.

Honestly I don't know, as I targeted several countrries.
I think was 500-600k total, if not more.

That's the problem with small niches. But I find it easier to succeed with small niches. It's a good way to do some tests when you're starting out.

She is targeting people from Dallas.

Anyway, it looks like people are looking here for some kind of magic formula.

Of make exactly this design, create exactly this ad, target exactly this audience and then profit.

Try to think for yourself, nobody is going to give you gold, you have to find it yourself. Keep on grinding, there are no shortcuts.

People are watching this thread to learn from mistakes of someone who has already "got it". Not to find a "magic formula". Also for basic tips that could help a newbie like myself become successful quicker then i would if i was just throwing money at the screen.

I hope this thread is still alive. noobie here. i really love the tips i'm getting from the likes of ppc coach, jcorp, bki, and globalexperts. thanks, guys!

              i have a question though:

the answer to this statement makes me confused because it kind of contradicts globalexperts and bki's previous statement to test with a small budget and leave it if it's a dud.

response is this: "That's not enough post engagement! My successful campaigns get as much 1000 shares and likes. And 15,000 to 20,000 likes on the Teespring campaign itself."

my question is didn't illester do right by dropping this campaign after no sales on his initial $12? If not, then how much should he have spent initially? or what other indicators should he have waited for?

Quick question - are you guys creating a FB page specifically for one shirt, or for many shirts? How exactly is the FB page set up? I've been trying to follow this whole teespring campaign idea but I'm just a tad confused on this one aspect!

I normally just use texts. But I would add icons occasionally.

I'm just using one fan page for all my campaigns. It would depend on your strategy though. Some internet marketers build their fan page audience first before selling the shirt.

Maybe because Houston Rockets is already down 3-2 in the playoffs. LOL Just kidding. I'm not really sure. How did you create your custom audience? Also, you didn't seem to have tried enough. You've only spent $8.85 so far. Moreover, you were running a post engagement campaign. It's more ideal to run "website conversions" campaign for Teespring.

But custom audience? I though that isn't possible anymore?

And yeah you didn't spend much to say anything. Your CTR isn't super but it isn't bad.

I have scraped UIDs from fanpage Houston Rockets, I just get really active user as "like" and "comment" in some post, after I have selected 20000 UIDs.

The number of clicks shown in PPE campaigns are actually the total number of clicks generated by your ad. It includes the clicks to like, share, comment, etc. on your post. Some people click on the ad multiple times. You would need to check the number unique clicks which represent the unique visitor who clicked on your ad. If you will check the unique number of website clicks on a PPE campaign, you will see that it's actually less, or about 25% of the total number of clicks.

I'm getting sales from both PPE and website conversions campaigns. However, I find it easier to optimize a website conversions campaign since I can optimize it based on conversions, so I prefer to use it.

Also I think you're targeting the wrong age group. It just says 21-24. The group that buys sports shirts might be 30-40. Who knows. 21-24 are the type that might just like a post but they're not going to take out their credit cards and buy it.

Someone older might have more income so are more willing to buy. You'll just have to test it out and see what age groups will buy.

I've tried the 30-40 age group but apparently they do not care about the shirt,
it reflected very low rate of CTR.
I've run two campaigns and failed, it made me lose $ 44 for facebook ads with 0 sale . I will be trying more for the next campaign

Alright, I might have to try that! Thank you~ oh, and I took your advice and made one single fanpage for all of my t-shirts. Doing a little promotion to see if I can get some likes and liking other pages on Facebook to try and bring in some more fans. I'm just wondering if maybe the page is too broad for people to like... because my t-shirts so far have been from a couple of different niches. But I've also seen lots of t-shirt fanpages and websites that just have t-shirts that cater to everyone so I don't know...

I honestly tried creating individual fan pages for each of my shirt campaign, and I see significant increase in sales. I got the advice from someone who's been doing it well on Teespring. Anyway, I'm now using both PPE and website conversions campaigns. Got 14 sales in 12 hours.

Having just one FP for shirts as well as setting up a separate FP for each niche works well. We've added thousands of likes on both strategies just on the fanpages themselves, so I see no difference really in terms of sales.

But, about 80%-90% I like to set up a separate FP as you never know, you could stumble upon a "golden niche" that you want to eventually get into for the long haul and build out the FP.

Another thing is, if it becomes successful, you can easily sell them another shirt design or simply another shirt color to the same niche.

So i launched my first campaign for tee spring yesterday. This was my first ever time getting actual hands on experience not only designing my own shirt for tee spring but generally my first experience doing any IM. I decided to not blur out any part of this photo because i want all the tips and feedback i can get. I chose to target a TV show. As you can see the ad has been running for about a day and has been seen by a decent amount of people but has not been clicked even once. I set a very low budget of $2 for split testing by the way. Is the idea for the shirt just plainly sad "bad" or am i doing something else wrong that is preventing people from clicking. I targeted people i would expect to actually have money to buy a shirt and also the age group i expected to be interested enough to purchase it. As i said I'm an all out NOOBIE. So please point out as much as you can for me so i can learn and hopefully launch a campaign that will at least sell one shirt. I'm trying to use tee spring and Facebook ads to train my self in the basics of IM.

I think it has something to do with your niche. I seldom see a successful Teespring campaign for a TV show niche. Also, you should not target all three countries in one campaign. You should create a separate campaign for each country.

Yeah, I'm dropping this one. I thought about it more and myself personally i would not buy this shirt even though i love the TV show. Is there any other tips for better targeting? Should i look for a more "pride" related niche that i can target much more to get a very specific audience?

Yes! If you wouldn't buy it yourself, then others wouldn't buy it either. I sometimes ask my friends for design feedback before I launch a campaign. I'm not using custom audience and I'm into hobby shirts as well.

It's all coming from my ads! I tried to reach out to fan page owners before but they don't seem to be interested so I guess it's just a waste of time.

Reaching out to fanpage owners work, but I'd rather pay ads and dial in my targeting. We've had a few fanpage owners send us a "media kit" to advertise on their page but we haven't taken advantage of that yet. If the fanpage gets a lot of engagement and activity and it's targeted, then try negotiating with the fanpage owner on a CPA basis, or for every sale they get X amount.

I am reading that you guys are like spending up to $1,000 on ads? how are you affording this lol, I know your making a profit overall but how can you afford to spend over a grand on this and have to wait like a week or something before teespring pay you back unless.. teespring pay straightaway?

*I know this is probably a stupid question, but i'm scared facebook is gona start drying out my account before I can get anything back from teespring.

We've been doing internet marketing for quite some time now. So we do have enough funds for our campaigns. Anyway, you don't have to spend $1,000 since you're just starting out. Start with small campaigns and scale up slowly as you accumulate funds from your successful campaigns. Also, you can set a daily budget per ad set in Facebook, and they won't charge you more than that.

What kinda numbers are you targetting on average in hobbies? Just launched my 3rd campaign and i noticed a hobby tee that tipped like crazy within a day and is still selling like crazy so i took inspiration from that and created my own design. The audience is 26k and I'm not sure if this is too little or actually a good amount. I'm hoping i can at least make one sale in this campaign so i can get some sense of accomplishment and keep working at it.

EDIT: It's doing way better then my last two campaigns, but still no sales. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Only $1.40 spent so far.

You don't have to watch for every penny. You don't have to be scared to lose some money. Just let it run for $20 or so and see how it went.

With the right targeting an audience of 26k is enough to make 50-100 or more sales, quite easily.

My highest ROI was on a campaign with an audience of 8000. I managed to sell 35 hoodies with an ROI of about 600%. The only problem with smaller audiences is that you can't really scale up, most of my campaigns run for 1-3 days and then the frequency hits 2-3 and the profits dry up completely.

Definitely don't need $1,000. If you've got some training and knowledge, then you can get going with about $100 to $300 or so. You may "lose" all of it, or you might come upon a winner that you can put your budget into, cash out, re-invest and launch again.

We start most of our campaigns with just $15. No sale, we end it. Look into doing the same for your campaigns.

I'm beginning to get near that stage of discouragement. Launched my third campaign a couple days ago. I was excited about this one. I did my research, the design was great and it was in a good niche that has not been exploited much but has been selling tons. The ad was being shared a lot and had plenty of likes and people were showing great interest in the shirt... So i kept waiting for a sale because it felt like it was just gonna happen anytime now. But no sales . I guess I'm just confused about what I did wrong. I keep thinking there is just some secret formula to targeting. I pretty much laser targeted this campaign as much as i could and most people sharing and liking were actually the people i wanted to target so everything seemed like it was done correctly.

How much have you spent on the ads? and how much people have been liking and sharing your post?

37 likes and 17 shares. Ran for a full day and one night for a couple hours. Spent $12 on ads.

EDIT: Also today i saw a teespring news feed ad on my wall that someone was running. Then i checked back on FB like an hour later and saw Teespring themselves promoting that persons shirt. How does this work?

That's not enough post engagement! My successful campaigns get as much 1000 shares and likes. And 15,000 to 20,000 likes on the Teespring campaign itself.

      Hi globalexperts,

I'm new to teespring & facebook ads. And I'm a huge fan of you and your campaigns.

Can you help me a bit? Are you using "online spenders" option on facebook ads? Is it very effective in terms of conversions?

Also, what type of ads you think is the best, page post engagement? clicks to website? or website conversion?

When I choose website conversion, the average cost per conversion is ~$20. My profit per tee is ~$10 so I don't think its good to choose website conversion after all.

      More power to you.
      Thanks,

        Thanks,
I'm not familiar with "online spenders". I just use the basic Facebook ads platform.

I'm using both PPE and website conversions campaigns. I only run one of them based on the results of my testing or I run them both.

And I aim for 1 sale for every $5 spent on Facebook ads.

globalexperts - I would be interested in hearing if Facebook was even approving that type of custom audience (birth dates) any more. I had heard they were no longer accepting them. Anyone been trying lookalike audiences based on conversions?

And more generally speaking, with Teespring campaigns, do you send the traffic directly to your sales page on Teespring, or do you embed the offer in a page of your own (blog, etc)? I am not sure exactly how Teespring works, though I am interested in trying it out.

You can do a direct link and generally speaking, it won't be a problem when advertising with FB unlike when you direct link with CB. Since your url with TS is generally unique to you, then you stay clear of problems... for the most part.

We've been testing using landing pages on teespring with great success as well.

I simply send them straight to my Teespring campaign. Some people use landing pages before so they can use the Facebook retargeting code. But everything can be done within Teespring now including the retargeting option. So I don't see the need to use landing pages for now.

How exactly do you target professions and an interest? For example "a nurse who likes 49ers". Do you go to job titles and choose nurse and then add 49ers to interests?

I normally spend $10 to $20 to test the campaign. I should get 2-3 sales before I decide to continue with the ads...

I've just launched my 5th campaign. I killed 2 early test campaigns after reaching around $20USD spend and no sales. I had lots of likes and a few comments, but I was so annoyed they wouldn't buy them. They were to do with topical and trending issues. I almost wanted to say "Stop being a lazy armchair supporter and buy the shirt!" to the people....

How much clicks, likes, comments and shares were you getting? Successful campaigns literally gets hundreds to thousands of likes and shares. So if you're getting about 20 likes/shares or less for example, then there's not much interest in your shirt.

It's more than 20 actions but noway near hundreds, so yeah maybe they're "social" and armchair fans. One is a parody of Vladimir Putin, I think I got the audience wrong with that one though, too broad. I have however had a guy who contacted me on Facebook after he saw it and told me he knows a political organisation who would want to promote it if I donated to their cause- which I will follow up as they have thousands of members who support the "cause" I'm promoting!

Another one of them is related to the English football (soccer) team Liverpool Football Club, they have some of the most passionate fans around, so i was surprised it didn't hit. I also know a lot about this team and I know their slogans, history etc so my design was well thought out but I think the timing is wrong though as the English premier League has just finished though, the design was in my opinion at least as good as some I've seen which have sold, so I'll pause and relaunch closer to the time of the competition starting again and maybe change the angle or colour etc.

The other set is related to Scottish independence. Again a few likes, shares, comments, but no sales. Same problems as above I guess!

I have launched some using Fabrily as they are cheaper for EU and the More American variations using teespring.

I've just watched some of Don Wilson's videos and he's given me a much better idea of what can really sell. I've also been looking at the bestsellers list, I'm puzzled as to who some of the tees targeted though- the "Hot enough to make your heart stop" one I thought was justa good design, but who did they actually target? Hot chicks? is that @group"? lol

No. You have to manually pause and run your campaign at certain times of the day. But I've heard some people are using a third party software to run their ads at certain times.

Day parting is fine if you're using straight CPM or CPC... but if you're using OCPM, I wouldn't mess with the campaign if you plan to run it for a long time, otherwise you'll mess with the algorithim and your results won't be consistent.

Try Page Post Engagement too if OCPM and website conversions are not working for you.

Also your niches are political but you have to ask the question, "do these people wear t-shirts?"

What is the difference between post engagement vs conversions?

Are CPC or the other settings useful at all- I know you've said before you prefer OCPM?

Yeah well I guess the feedback is in the results, so at least I know the groups I targeted are not buyers! However Liverpool fans are definately buyers, but their interest seems to peak and trough according to the time of year I guess- now that it's off season maybe I should wait!

You can do name campaigns, you just can't use custom audiences with them.

PPE is page post engagement. It means you have a post on a page and want people to interact with it. You pay for likes, shares and comments. People get confused with this type in saying they're paying very little for "clicks" but those clicks are not always clicks on a link off Facebook.

OCPM is just a bidding type. It's optimized CPM and you pay per 1,000 impressions of your ad. Facebook is supposed to optimize it to show to the "best" audience they can find. You need to use a conversion tracking pixel to make it work best and I've found it really kicks in after 25 to 100 conversions.

However, you can place a tracking pixel for any bidding type or ad type. Then view it in the reports. Only when you setup "Website Conversion" campaigns do the conversions show on the main dashboard in your ad account.

That is exactly what I was pointing out about PPE campaigns. People are mostly looking at the total number of clicks. They should look at the number of website clicks, not the total number of clicks which includes clicking on like, share, etc.. Website clicks is what brings your audience straight to your Teespring campaign.

If you will compare the cost per website click on a PPE campaign and website conversions campaign, they are almost the same.

The good thing with website conversions campaign is you can use different images and ad copies. And you can easily optimize the ads based on conversions. You can't do that with PPE campaigns.

I have a question on testing, maybe it`s stupid but...

For example, if I have an ad that got a couple of sales. Let`s say I notice the sales are coming from age group 30-45. So I create another ad but target it to just that age group. Do I then stop the first ad? Or do I just leave it alone and let both ads run? Wouldn`t I be competing against myself?

It might be a good idea to post the first ad, as you might be bidding against yourself which will make the CPM high. Unless, you really have a huge audience.

Pause the first ad and start new adsets with your converting demo... we like to break it down to 5 year age groups... not all the time however.

Hey guys! I just found a way to further boost my Teespring campaign ROI. I just got 2 sales after just spending about $1.05 on ads. I'm earning $12 per shirts so that is about 2,300% ROI which is CRAZY!!! Here's my current progress:

Wow, your frequency is over 1.7 already on a reach of just 34? I'm guessing you're using either CA's, Retargeting, or small PI audience.

Tell me I'm right? Or tell me I'm wrong ... you don't have to say the exact strategy if you'd rather not.

I'm still testing things out! The method appears to be very effective at the moment. I will definitely share it here as soon as I master the method.

But I'm now very careful when sharing screenshots. I realized that some people copied some of my Teespring campaigns including my sales letter. It's really annoying! HAHAHA!

    Ok what's the tipping point?

I spent just around $20 on ads in about 4hrs which achieved
    2 sales
    20 shares
    60+ likes
    4 comments

Thought this would be a winner.... But no.

    In the next 7 hours
    0 sales
    6 shares

Add spend is now $30. Have paused the campaign for now but thinking of trashing it.

What do you guys think? Maybe it's just a time of day thing or maybe I just got a lucky start with the first two sales....

Have you tried to optimize your ads? Pause the low-performing ads and scale up the ads that got the conversions.

Here's one of my newest campaigns. 18% CTR and 1 conversion after just spending $0.35 on ads. The key in Facebook marketing is keeping your cost down while generating sales to make massive profit!

        Reach 11 and frequency 1.45?

        How big is your audience?

It's not "fair" to show screenshots like that because when people target a bigger audience say 20k (that's small even) they usually don't get those numbers.

And a sample with a reach of 15 isn't really a great example. I have had 200.000% ROI campaigns with samples tat small. But I am pretty sure it won't last like that

You need to use multiple ads when doing a test. You won't find the best ad if you'll run them one at a time.

Your target audience appears to be broad! A well targeted audience ranges from 40k to 80k for medium niches, and 100k to 500k for large niches. That's the main reason why you're not getting enough clicks.

You don't have to pick a lot of interests per campaign. I simply pick one interest that is mostly related to my shirt campaign.

    I must be missing something:

    1. Design is getting rave complements
    2. engagement is continuous - likes/shares
    3. ?????
    4. profit

step 3 is missing for me as the sales just aren't coming in. What am i missing that's going to turn people who like and share the shirt into buyers?

It's in the sports niche so i know this is a demographic that does by tees but what makes them tip?

Be specific with your stats. Or share us the screenshot of the stats. Also, I realized the it actually depends on your niche. I have one niche who are high-income earners and the post engagements turned out to be really low. However, those few post engagements still resulted to a lot of sales.

        It tipped:

        Ad spend - $100
        Ad Ctr - 4.2%
        Sales - 10
        Net loss - $65

Most of the comments were along the lines of - 'want it', 'love it' but they didn't buy. I realise i made some mistakes with the presentation as the shirt was aimed at women but the main picture on the teespring page was the standard mans tee.

I also had a lower price tank-top version which had a slim margin (is it possible to see what version of the design sold?)

My targeting was women over the age of 18 and interested in the niche. The audience was 440,000

I'm also thinking that it may be a timing thing. I got most of the sales in the evening around 6-7pm.

Not going to run this tee again for about a month until i grow the page audience a bit more and can work out a new angle perhaps.

How do i create urgency to buy?

Seems like the audience is very broad. Use some layering that down to around 100k to 500k.

You're competing with thousands of other advertisers with an audience that big.

I've spent $52.67 to my campaign and only got 1 sale. I've 2 ads:

    Potential Audience was 300k
    56 Post Engagements
    4,287 Reach
    72 Clicks
    1,648% CTR
    Total Spent $25.22

    Potential Audience was 2,8k
    64 Post Engagements
    1,870 Reach
    101 Clicks
    4.495% CTR
    Total Spent $27.35

And I think I got 1 sale from the 2nd ad which only has 2,8k potential audience. But you can see the difference right? It's all about targeting. But I think I made a mistake, it's only Boost Post. Now I paused those 2 ads and start with Website Conversion and we'll see how it goes. Hopefully more sales! Because it's only 2,8k Potential Audience. Is it okay? Or it's too small? I mean the Potential Audience. Thanks before!

Split between PPE as well. Personally boosted posts do the worst for me..

    Question:

Who uses ad management services? 3rd party stuff?
I'm eager to find something easier to do mass split tests with, as well as a way to automate bidding, pausing, scaling etc.

I'm finding it difficult to decide!

2,800 audience would be very difficult to scale up. Try to find a niche that has 40,000 audience or more...

Are you into a hobby niche? Your 440,000 audience might not be targeted enough. Also, you're targeting people who are 18 yrs old and above. 18 to 20 year old people mostly do not have a credit card. And in most cases, 21 to 30 year old people do not buy shirts online, but this would depend on your niche.

I guess it's more hobby than not but it's debatable. The 'no credit card thing' may be an issue but most people I know had one when we were 18 so thought it was the norm but i'm starting to think that this crowd aren't big spenders...

That's a big chunk of people and i would have thought with the right t-shirt they go crazy for it looking at sites like reddit, 9gag et al

What's a good size audience to target? sub 100k?

Just say your shirt has a wider appeal like you've found a really witty saying about strawberries & cream for example and a great designer. Would you not even bother doing it if it's too general?

Yes, for many of our niches that we don't know the converting demo, we go broad age from 20 - Up. We've had many many campaigns that sold to 20-24 year olds exclusively... find the right niche with the right shirt and you can clean up. So don't close the door on them youngins'.

Yep! By the way, how's your budgeting for every campaign that you made? Let's say for 10 days. Do you always have the same budget? What if the budget that you set is not enough, do you cancel it or add more budget?

My last campaign was not successful . I've spent almost $80 and only sold 1. Guess the Potential Audience 2,500 cause the problem.

Who is the shirt aimed at? The text on the shirt is really small too and you can't see it. Is that the First Amendment or something?

I'm a total noob at this, so I apologize if this is dumb question. I ran a campaign that ended a few days ago. I "sold" 7 shirts, but the Facebook tracking pixel only registered 3 sales, so I don't know where the other sales came from, or if FB simply did not register them.

I have a new campaign and I sold one shirt today, but FB still says 0 conversions. Is this normal, or could there be something wrong with my tracking pixel?

I always start with a small budget. Normally $5 to $10 per day on the first day. Then I scale it up to $30 to $100 per day if I get sales for the first $10. Also, I usually drop campaigns if I don't get sales for the first $10 to $20. And yes, your potential audience is too small. Try to find a niche that has at least 40,000 audience.

Have you ever tried just duplicating an ad several times over to scale up? I heard some people do that to scale up instead...

I have a question on scaling once you have a successful campaign. I see some people recommend scaling an ad to $100 a day. But I also see some people that recommend segmenting an ad to smaller groups (for example according to age) with smaller budgets like 10 ads with $10 per day.

With which method you had most success with? Because I'm not sure right now how to scale a potentially good campaign...

The budget would depend on how big your audience is. If you have a small audience like 10,000 people, it would NOT be ideal to spend $100 a day on ads. I prefer segmenting my ads into smaller groups so I can track my conversions precisely.

Ok, I am back with more questions

      1) How do you target people with 2 interests? For example, someone who likes traveling AND surfing. Whatever I do, I get people who like traveling OR surfing. What am I missing here?

      2) If you had a successful campaign, how long do you wait to launch the same shirt again to the same audience?

        1) Really can't do this from the INTERESTS section. the "AND" statement only applies when you're including one of the other targeting features such as MEN & 20-30 years old & who like Baseball & Online Spenders...

Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to include AND within the INTERESTS section, at least at this time.

Sales tend to slow down here and there depending on a variety of factors.

Most times, we just leave everything as-is unless we see a significant drop in ROI/profit.

If we do, then we'll either lower the budget a bit, or start optimizing the ad/demo even further.

I normally put 50 shirts. You can always request for a goal drop if you see that you won't make it, but you have at least 10 shirts sold.

Facebook Insights can be used to expand your audience since custom audience is somehow limited. It can also be used to find new niches. Please check the link I posted previously about Facebook Insights. One of our fellow warrior has explained it pretty well on how you can take advantage of it...

Hey Global. I'm really struggling with this Teespring. I've done a total of 52 campaigns and zero sales. I don't know if it's my designs, lack of urgency, my targeting etc.

I did a test this weekend. Nurses are a hot topic on teespring. So I decided to target LPN's. For the first time I was able to get low suggested bids from around 0.07 to 0.12 per click. But the problem is, my actual CPC was still higher from 0.40 to 0.80. I ran one campaign and tested with two ads, with two different templates.Targeted all LPNS by job title in one ad, and interests in the other. I have some saved data on my attachments. Also it seems like I'm getting over charged by clicks that don't happen. $25.00 goes pretty fast. I've tested both on CPC and optimized CPM

Also I have studied a TON of guides and watched a ton of videos.

        Anyway, feedback would be appreciated.

You've entered one of the most competitive niches on teespring with a design that has been done to death with and expect to tip campaigns? I've seen this exact design many many times before, and I'm not a nurse. What more an actual nurse. At least change up the design so it doesn't look like every other person's design. But aside from that, for your first campaign, why get into one of the most competitive niches? My advice would be to look for other less known niches for your first few campaigns... and don't copy other people's designs... simply use them as inspiration and only "model" after them.

I totally agree with you! And it's really annoying as the owner of the shirt when people copy your design. And some people even copy your sales page! hahaha! In one instance, I significantly dropped my shirt price $5 below the original price to ruin the campaign of the person who copied my campaign. Luckily it worked! haha!

Thanks, makes perfect sense. I did tweak the design and added a different heart. The reason I went after this was to target LPN's only, which I didn't see LPN campaigns on Teespring whereas nurses only, RN's CNA's are being hammered to death. It was worth a shot though. Lesson learned.

Thanks a lot for the tips.

There are three things that might be causing your campaigns to fail.

          1. First, since Teespring is really hot right now, there are a lot of internet marketers competing with each other. So you should be finding new niches or create a shirt that is really unique and something that you would wear yourself. Although you changed the design a bit in your nurse campaign, that shirt was already sold to nurses several times.

          2. Make sure that you are doing the right targeting in your Facebook ads. 52 campaigns with 0 sales sounds odd to me. If you're doing the targeting correctly, you should be getting some sales by now.

          3. Keep optimizing your Facebook ads during the test. Some people just let their $20 get used up then check if they get any sales. It doesn't work that way! I normally optimize my ads for every $3 spent on ads. In other words, I will pause the low-performing ads during the test, and continue to run the good ones, or even change my ad images and ad copies in some cases.

          Hope this helps!

Agreed. A lot of competition in that niche/design.

It is odd and unfortunately it's the truth. As far as the targeting if you noticed the data on my screenshots, my targeting was directed at interests and job titles all LPN nurses. Is there a different way I could have targeted? Or like said above, design/niche too saturated.

            3.

As far as running campaigns, how many ads do you test with one niche/one design? I usually test with two ads.

Do you mind me asking how do you optimize those ads? Different ads for different age groups? For different shirt colors as well?

I just tried one campaign and couple commented on the ad that they would buy it if it wasn't junior fit tee (it's the women's one). So I guess it's better to go for the other model?

It is odd and unfortunately it's the truth. As far as the targeting if you noticed the data on my screenshots, my targeting was directed at interests and job titles all LPN nurses. Is there a different way I could have targeted? Or like said above, design/niche too saturated.

              3. As far as running campaigns, how many ads do you test with one niche/one design? I usually test with two ads.
I think there's something wrong with your targeting. You don't have to put all their interests in one ad. I normally just use one interest per ad up to a maximum of 3 if I want to expand my audience.

I test 10 to 15 ads per shirt campaign.

I usually just pause the low performing ads and let the good ones continue to run. When I say low performing ads, these are ads that has low CTR, conversions and post engagements. If all of them are not performing well, I would change the ad copies or ad images.

When you say test 10-15 ads per campaign- do you test that many after testing one "general" one which picks up sales, then if it sells you change copy, interests, age etc, or do you test that many from the first moment?

I just bought ads for the first time yesterday - was targeting a group of 28,000 and made my first sale at $1.24 spent but haven't made another one yet, at $5.xx now. I chose to spend $20 over 48 hours.

Is it better to spend $20 in one day while actively monitoring it and trying to optimize or to spread it out over 2-3 days to see if your campaign has potential? I guess I'm trying to figure out the best the strategy for the test spending phase.

Also, I recall hearing that your goal should be 5-6% of your potential reach, but that seems high. Is there any common rules that are accepted regarding conversion goals and potential reach? Does potential reach even matter if you target efficiently enough (say your reach is 500,000 but your targeting criteria is very robust and specific.)

Thanks for all the information so far - not sure if I came across this thread already while doing research over the last six weeks, but great stuff.
There are a lot of Facebook courses in the WSO section. Make sure that you read the reviews before deciding which one to buy. You may also browse the Facebook help section. It has helped me when I was starting out.

1 sale in $1.24? Looks like you're in the right track. Make sure that you're monitoring your conversions. In other words, implement the Facebook tracking pixel to identify the ads that generated conversions.

I spend $10 to $20 per day for new campaigns. It would depend on your budget. If you have a really tight budget, keep it below $5 per day to test the waters.

5-6% goal of your potential reach seems high. I normally get around 1% or less. So if you have 20,000 audience, if 1% buys that's already 200 sales which is not bad at all. Perhaps 5-6% would work in hot niches like name campaigns (which is not longer allowed in FB).

Those are the total ads that I run for the entire length campaign. I start with 10-15 ads and end with 3-5 ads.

Hey Global do you use Page Post Engagement, CPC or OCPM? Or do you test with all three? In other words, which format do you have the most success with of the three?

I just found out the hard way that Teespring will not let you drop your goal below 20% of the original goal. In my case, I got way too optimistic and started out with a goal of 100 shirts. On the last day of the campaign I had sold 8, so I wanted to drop the goal to 10 with hopes of tipping the campaign.

However, Teespring would not let me go below 20 shirts for the new goal. So unless you're certain your campaign will be very successful, start low.

Do they state this anywhere? I've got five days left on a campaign, spent $20 so far and I have ten sales with the tipping point at 50. I'm wondering what I should do the rest of the campaign advertisingwise.

You don't want to kill your campaign too early. If you would be earning $12 per shirt, I would spend at least $12 before I quit. Also, you should check the CTR and post engagements. I honestly have one campaign before where I quit too early after spending around $10. After revisiting the ad stats, I noticed that it has a potential. So I relaunched it and sold 200 plus shirts!

I break them into 2 to 4 ad sets. Each ad set has a budget of $2.5 to $5. And 1 ad set has 3 to 5 ads in it.

I usually use website conversions campaign and I run it on OCPM. But I occasionally add a PPE campaign as well when I'm doing some tests.

Since I'm running on OCPM, I just let it run for the entire day. In my experiece, I'm getting inconsistent results if I pause a campaign that is on OCPM.

You simply need to email Teespring support to manually drop it for you! I've done it before and they let it through.

Yes, you can only drop the goal to 20% of your initial goal if you're using the Teespring platform to drop your goal. However, you can always email Teespring support to manually drop it for you...

I'm basically testing different sets of ad images and ad copies to see which one will get the highest possible CTR and conversions. I'm only changing all my ad images and ad copies if all of the ads do not perform well. By the way, I'm referring to the total amount spent for the entire campaign when I say I optimize my ads for every $3 spent on ads.

I've had a decent campaign for the last few days. 40 shirts in 3 1/2 days and the campaign still has 3 days to run. The target is 50 shirts

I'm currently at $50 a day in adspend. I tried to increase the budget to $100 a day yesterday but I didn't see any huge increase in conversions.

This is a pretty niche group around 100k max and i'm already targeting all of them as far as I know.

Any other way to scale apart from throw more money at the campaign?

How do you guys increase urgency to get people to buy now rather than wait till later?

Be careful when trying to scale up your campaign. Facebook sometimes increases your CPM significantly when you increase your budget, but you basically end up with the same results.

I designed a shirt. Now I am getting alot of likes and comments and shares on it.

Now in the comments people are saying they want, they will buy for sure, they are tagging other people to buy the shirt and even asking how to order the shirt.

Even after all that I haven't got a single sale on this shirt on teespring. Now is it worth retargeting to these people?

No custom audiences, no sports, no names, no ages, nothing against FB ToS in any way.

It's pretty simple actually. Create your shirt. Copy and paste the image on a fan page with very simple ad copy above it and a link to the sales page. Then use FB interest targeting to zero in on INTERESTED fb users.

The part where most people get caught is the targeting.

Feel free to ask questions. I'm an open book.

      RULES:
I will not show you the design as I plan to rerun it many times.
I will not directly tell you the niche, but I'm more than happy to tell you what kind of niche or any demographic questions related to it.

I'm low on money for my TS Facebook ads. My roommate says she can invest some money and we can become partners. Essentially I would do all the work, and she'll just put money into the campaigns, but she wants a 50/50 split on the profits.

The problem I've run into with my small budgets is that it's difficult to scale up a potentially successful campaign. Has anyone partnered with someone 50/50? Would this be better than doing nothing, or should I just keep trying on my own with my limited budget?

The problem I've run into with my small budgets is that it's difficult to scale up a potentially successful campaign. Has anyone partnered with someone 50/50? Would this be better than doing nothing, or should I just keep trying on my own with my limited budget?
It may be a good idea to partner with someone if you have a limited budget. However, it would be best to do it on your own once you have accumulated enough budget from your successful campaigns in the future so you'll get 100% profit!

In the past, I did partner with a guy who claimed to have a team of Teespring experts. Unfortunately, it turned out that his team has a very little knowledge of Teespring. So I just ended the partnership with him and decided to just do it on my own.

      Don't partner with your roommate.
      You better borrow it somewhere.

I noticed that Teespring has a search function now! So it might be hard to hide our campaigns now from people who want to copy it! LOL

Yeah just had a successful campaign 100+ shirts

Lo and behold the copycat has already appeared with my exact same design at a different demographic! This makes it harder to scale and will no doubt result in more copycats so not sure whether to abandon my plans to scale or carry on regardless....?

Yeah! It's really frustrating! I hope Teespring will do something about it in the future. Perhaps we can report it to them and have them remove the copycat campaign!

What do you guys pay "per click" for pricing? Do you go with the "default optimized" or edit accordingly?
