I still think that it's the same.

But of course harder in 2018 because it's more competitive

Nowadays no matter online or offline, people still need to build their list.

And most or all of us want freedom, a lot more people will joint and build a list.

Why the hostility? I think it was a legitimate question.

I've been successful since 2008 because of email marketing.

Would you care to explain why you believe that in 2018 "they will hate you," and "they will not buy from you?"

Sarcasm should be avoided on a multi-national forum:

          1. many just aren't able to do it very well,
          2. most of those who don't share your native language won't understand the sarcasm, and ...
          3. many of those who do share your native language won't understand the sarcasm, either.

Here is an example of #1, above.

That's a pretty poor example of "sarcasm".

Simply saying what you really mean will help reduce any misunderstanding.

I did read the last part. It sounded like you were insulting him.

You should look up the meaning of sarcasm. What you wrote was more of a senseless rant.

Yes it will be competitive no doubt. But a lot of opportunities are there as well specially in Affiliate Marketing. Solo Ads sellers are there much more nowadays as compare to earlier days who has proven list of buyers

The new thing is that more people want to be paid for being in your list. Freebies may not be interesting any longer in 2018 and beyond. This already happens in some crowded Asian countries. So the competition to big companies would have to take into a consideration. We will face a marketing war around the world.

Superowid, seems like the only one who actually answered the question.

Before him most people's pat answer was "nothing will change". Huh? I don't know anything, especially in this fast pace world, that's "The Same", unless your maybe talking about fundamentals.

For example, these are the changes I see coming almost like a Fire Hose in 2018, which means prepare yourself, especially if you're new.

    - Better A/B testing, split testing technology, even automation.
    - The growing almost cut-throat competition for inbox attention.
    - The increased distractions and choices your target market will have.
    - The new software that will help you target prospects even better.
    - More stringent/enforcement of existing email marketing regulations.
    - Privacy Policy and Security/protection concerns from hacking will continue to grow.
In addition to people's growing skepticism/irritation with email in general I see a lot of changes.

But of course the fundamentals will be the same, maybe that's what most of the responders meant, they just didn't say it.

Yes, a lot of people join and get their own list, but 90%+ will quit after getting couple hundred subscribers.

Reason: not enough or any sales because they buy their traffic from crappy places.

So, How do you think building an email subscribers list will change in 2018?

As long as there are people looking for a way to
make some extra money online, network marketers
will always have a list to build.

It doesn't matter that it's 2018. Look at the stats from
last year and beyond. Out of all the people who operate
an online business, the percentage of failure still out weighs
the 2% who are making consistent, monthly income.

Marketers spend time learning the ins and outs of their
opportunity, attend training webinars, etc but they don't
spend time cultivating their lists. So those leads move on
to another list where they are ignored or spammed once
    again.

So no, list building will not be harder in 2018.

i think it will be still same as last year...
i have try to list using fb ads, soloads, giveaway event, form submit on my blog...and i no doubt that's will be same as in 2018 too.
but i think the problem is not for how to listbuilding but how to create the great sales funnel..
    just in my humble opinion

In some ways, it may demand more from the list builder.

    > People are getting more and more protective of their inboxes. This means that your freebie has to be both higher quality and more tightly matched to what the prospect is looking for.

    > Segmentation and personalization is becoming more important. Unless you are in a very small niche with a single product, having "a" list will be tougher. It's much more likely that you will need to build multiple lists.

    > Attracting prospects will continue to be a game of keeping up with traffic sources. Changing search algorithms, TOS changes to platforms, new privacy rules, etc. will make the fantasy of 'set it and forget it' even wilder than it was.

The basic principles won't change. If people believe they will benefit by getting/opening your emails, they will. To borrow a phrase from Zig Ziglar, if they believe your big stack of benefits is worth more than their little stack of money, they will buy. Give them a reason to brag about doing business with you, and they'll tell their friends, followers and family. Give them a reason to bitch about you, and they'll tell anyone who will listen, loudly and often.

I think that it will be harder in the sense that most people are be wary of giving their email address since their mailboxes are full of unread emails.

At the same time, if you have something to offer that they want, giving out their email addresses is still a small price to pay.

Perceived value is what it's all about.
