Just looking for some input/ideas... I want to start a blog, and I enjoy writing. However, I don't have a niche, and I can't come up with anything that would hold my interest enough to write about it all the time. I don't really have any hobbies, I am not good at anything (napping? complaining? sarcasm?.... yeah, that's all). I enjoy making people laugh. I can't be serious about anything (just ask anyone I have ever met). I like to write from a comedic standpoint. Should I go with a funny mom-blog type situation? I think I could do that, but I would like to eventually monetize and I have no idea how I could monetize that..

Or should I just say screw blogging and make some small affiliate sites? I thought that may be better because there is less upkeep... I would like to eventually make some money off whatever I do.

I need some direction. I literally want someone to say "you should do _____" because I can't make decisions. The one with the best idea will get a cut of my million$.

Does the Funny Mom Blog thing sound fun to you? Would you do it without giving zero thought to making money?

That is your niche if you nod Yes to both questions. Detachment and a willingness to give all your energy to following your passion DM is the way to go to start blogging intelligently and from the right energy.

Your passion creates the niche through your infectious - in a good way - nature. But realize this; it takes years of daily play - masquerading as work - to do this full time. If you commit 100% to doing blogging mainly for fun, for years, you lay the foundation for a full time business.

    Happy Blogging.

    Take a look here:

    1. Totes Inappropes Blog.
    2. Totes Inappropes Facebook.
    3. Totes Inappropes Instagram.

Were I in your shoes? Or heels? Or fluffy Garfield slippers?

I would take the mom route.

If your post is anything to go by, then you should definitely blog.

    1. You have writing chops.
    2. You have a cracking idea (mom blog).
    3. You have an engaging author's voice.

So what would I do? Well, let me give you the broad strokes.

    1. Brand.

Put together a humorous brand that will appeal to moms, and either hire out the graphic design or DIY.

    2. Reverse-Engineer.

Look at the top mom-based brands in the world. Run them through Similar Web to learn more about how they operate. It won't be long before you find out which affiliate programs they promote, which social platforms they use, and so forth.

    3. Platforms.

Based on 1 and 2, put together the platforms you need. In 2018, these should be (regardless of 2) the following:

    - Blog.
    - Facebook Page.
    - Google-Plus Profile.
    - Instagram.
    - Twitter.
    - Pinterest.

    4. Content.

Examine your competition. Go through all of their media and pay close attention to the media that gets the most engagement from followers. That type of media will help to determine your focus (it's what your audience wants most). Put together content for the blog and the socials. When you have at least 10 blog posts, make applications to the relevant affiliate programs (you need some content before they'll review you).

    5. Monetization.

Install the Pretty Link plugin on your blog. This shortens your affiliate URLs so they look more like regular links, and therefore get more clicks. Forget about throwing up banners or similar ads. Use affiliate disclosures at the start of any monetized blog posts and link to offers (through your affiliate links generated by Pretty Link) from inside your blog posts. We call this contextual linking. It's the soft sell approach.

    6. Growth.

Grow your socials. Let anywhere from 75% to 90% of your social content be non-monetized (images, animated gifs, videos, non-monetuzed blog posts). Let the rest be monetized articles from your blog. Slap these articles onto your socials. In the case of a site like Facebook, for example, drop your blog post into the update field. Your audience can click it and visit the blog post. On IG, for instance, you can link to the post in your bio and tell your audience about the bio update in your latest media updates. Ultimately - grow these socials.

    7. Collection.

During web development - step 3 above - integrate email capture. A service like aWeber or Get Response is common. Use this integration to collect your audience.

    8. YouTube.

If you feel comfortable making videos (you don't have to show your face necessarily; I say this because some marketers are put off by the idea) put together videos. This is an extremely good way of growing passive traffic, growing followers, growing your audience, and getting eyeballs on the rest of your business.

    9. Routine It.

Once you have that model in place, Dreama, organise yourself so you can operate the business according to a regular and manageable routine.

Those are the broad strokes. Something for you to consider.

    Oh, one more.

    10. Fun.

Whatever you do - setup and operate an IM business that gives you fun. That's what I do. When you can figure a way to work and earn and have fun at the same time - then you're doing it right.

    All the best to you!

    Cheers,

    Tom

You know what. Napping, Complaining and Sarcasm could work for a viral type site... you may want to try it. Seriously!

With your sense of humor and the compelling writing voice that you have, I don't think you have a big problem. Use that mom card and your ability to complain and you'll be able to come up with a blog that most moms can really relate to. -Micah

I won't hold my breath on the millions considering you have admitted you can't make decisions.

This is probably the number one problem with new online marketers, bloggers and affiliate marketers. They don't stick to something long enough to actually make money from it.

There's a story from back in the days when the gold rush was a big thing. It's about a guy who invested a ton of money to dig for gold and quit before he ever scored it big. Someone else bought his mine, drilled another 3 feet and found a mountain of gold.

Don't quit before you reach your goal and just pick something. There really isn't such a thing as a bad niche. Pick something and force yourself to stick to it.
