That said, if you read posts here in categories of interest to you - you will notice the posts of some members stand 'out' as knowledgeable or having experience the area. You can then look for other posts or list signups or ads here by those same members.


Of course, you need to learn enough to decide what method of business you plan to do online - before you look for people to learn from.

That seems pretty important? How is a coach going to help you if you don't know what to ask the coach? Find a specific area you're interested in learning about and then seek out an expert in that field.

In my opinion, a coach is someone you know and they know you. You have regular meet ups or check-ins and usually this is a paid or exchange service. A mentor can be anyone you look up to. I have many many mentors. I have some for personal growth and development. I have others for real estate investing, others for affiliate marketing, etc. You don't need permission or need to pay anything to have good mentors.

Finding a coach takes a little more effort and there isn't a defined process. It can be trickier to find a good coach when money is involved. Mentors can be found easily on social media.

As Kay mentioned, use the search option to find previous threads on these topics. If you follow along in this forum for a while, you'll quickly learn who knows their stuff in a particular niche, but be careful on approaching them as you could get banned.

I think it would be wise to have some direction of what you want to do before you start looking for a mentor. I also think you should try to learn what you want to do before you seek a mentor, this way you have some base of knowledge your potential mentor can start.

One hint: mentors love it when you do what they recommend. They'll know you did the thing because you come back with questions...and the only way you could know to ask those questions is you did the thing.

That is the "battery" that powers the relationship. Don't do it and the battery will die. Do it and energy will keep getting fed into the battery.

The worst thing you can be is an "askhole"...the kind of person who keeps asking questions, then shies away and does nothing...only to return a few weeks later with another set of questions.

There's no age barrier on this, either. I recently had to disconnect from an older guy on FB who kept asking me questions, then doing nothing with the answer, and six weeks later coming back and asking similar questions again. I could tell he had done nothing in between. This had gone on for six or eight months, and I'd stayed in touch because he's member of a group we belong to. Overall talking with him was a waste of time for us both because he never did anything.

On the other hand, over Christmas I edited a book precisely about the way to attract mentors, and make the most out of working with them. It was written by a young guy who has done a ton with mentors...and he found out the "secret" early: that for the mentor it's a pleasure to watch the mentee doing the thing and learning from the struggle.

Amazing how often that happens. If you ask for - or pay for - 'advice' you need to be ready to take that advice and do something with it.


There is nothing more frustrating for a mentor OR a coach than trying to help someone who needs a babysitter rather than a teacher.

Good question. I would say that it depends

First of all it depends on your ability to take action and your level of commitment. The best students I've worked with, have already tried on their own and are doing the best on what they have. Now why is this important? It is because, no matter you have the best instruction, action is what produces results and especially in the beginning it's more important you are doing than having the best advice

With that said, it does matter who you learn from. Your goals need to be a factor that decides who to pick because believe it or not if someone doesn't have a result you're looking for (say with affiliate marketing) you won't...and good teaching won't fix that. The experience would count

Another factor is how much money you have to invest. If you do have 2000 and it won't worry you losing it, which is reasonable fee for example, sure go ahead.

Most people however it may not be the best use of those funds because they either can't afford it (when factoring other personal and professional expenses - not just having the money) or can get the result they're looking for cheaply.

Case in point: if you're lazy, don't take action or expect a couple grand to solve the problem it won't work. You have to do some self-analysis on that first to ensure you will be committed.

A coach and a mentor aren't different because with the exception of sports (or any physical activity) they work with you physically one-on one.

You need to know what type of business you are interested in then work finding training, books, YouTube videos, websites on how to start that business.

I don't think you need a mentor or coach right away. Why not to learn what you interested in yourself. There are plenty of free resources like youtube, all types of forums, WF and even google.

First of all decide what interest you the most, what business type would be good for you, what experience you have. Try to build a business on your own.

Finding a solid and trusted mentor is not easy, almost everybody wants your money and actually doesnt care about you. I think best would be for you to start a business on your own, get more and more experience and later if you decide to hire a mentor, it will be easier to spot a good and trusted mentor.

Try to find a mentor or a coach just close to you in real life who knows about IM and talk to him/her to get you focus on what you really want and you will get by doing online marketing. There should be some people already doing this in your area, and you can approach them to find one to get nice conversation. Hope it helps!

This is really interesting what everyone is saying. I didn't come to Warrior Forum for mentoring, but I never really thought about it anyway. I once had a lady who found me through Facebook who wanted to "mentor" me. But I didn't ask for her help. She wanted to groom me per say for coaching (which was not what I wanted to do. I'm a blogger/writer who didn't have a clue at the time what it meant to make a buck online). She wanted me to sell some cosmetic line for extra income (Rodan + Fields, I think). I ended up telling her not to contact me anymore because I didn't need a mentor nor was I interested.

So I'll ask since I'm a newbie here, and hopefully I'll be further educated so I don't sound dumb in the future. Is it really necessary to have a mentor? Does mentoring really improve your sales quality? Genuinely I ask because I have no clue.

A coach is someone that gives you advise more often then not, a mentor can really guide you through with application.

How do you seek a coach/mentor that is right for you?
You must be clear on your niche you are in. Find powerhouses who have the results you are looking for and that you resonate with. Seek them out. If they aren't into mentoring or coaching; find out how they learned to be successful and purchase that training. Dive in, ask questions, take massive action, make mistakes and learn from them.

Marketing online is a journey in which skillsets must be obtained to be successful. The path is different for everyone but find someone who has what you want and tap into their source of learning and model...You've got this!!!

Mentoring is a long-term process based on mutual trust and respect whereas Coaching, on the other hand, is for a short period of time. Mentoring is more focused on creating an informal association between the mentor and mentee, whereas coaching follows a more structured and formal approach.

Both are having different significances, mentoring is related to your career development whereas coaching is just related to the knowledge. A coach can share the knowledge with you but a mentor will help you in implementing that knowledge practically.

A coach is someone that doesn`t know how to do what you want to do but can help you discover how you already have the resources to do it, motivation, etc... and a coach ask for money
A mentor has experience in the field you need mentoring, they are the one that did it and will give your their experience and their resources to help you. they usually don`t ask for money...

and as you should guess, Mentors are much much more difficult to find..

Sometimes it is better to get a free session with a Business Coach who can help you sort through what you really want - goals you have - and strengths and weaknesses. The Coach can offer suggestions and if you hire that coach can provide resources and keep you on track. Most will charge for their services and usually you buy several months at a time. I'm a coach but if money is an issue, then I suggest going with a mentor. There are 3 I follow. A good mentor provides value to you and does have products/services/digital items for sale. So you will get pitched for a sale. The 3 I follow are not pushy and have taught be tons of great information about starting a profitable business. With a good mentor you will avoid mistakes and learn the rope much faster than doing it alone.

Anyway, perhaps the most important question you can ask yourself right now is:

What would you like the mentor to do for you?

Based on this replies in this thread, everyone seems to have a somewhat different notion of what coaches and mentors should do.

I think of a "mentor" as someone who gets more involved than a coach; someone who takes you under their wing. However, I wouldn't worry about the distinction too much at this stage.

I'd suggest figuring out the answer to the question... what would you want your mentor/coach to actually do for you?

Google business coach and learn what they can do to help a business. Then there are mentors. Those are who you learn from. Sometimes you take classes from them or watch YouTube videos to learn. It depends on what you really want.... someone to help guide you specifically for your business; or someone who provides education more generic that you learn from.

Coaches typically stay in contact with you by holding meetings online or by phone. They give you goals and followup to be sure your working on them. I am a Coach but have 3 mentors I follow to learn from.

You need to decide on what kind of online business you want to build first, whether that's affiliate marketing through blogging, affiliate marketing through sales funnels, affiliate marketing with YouTube, becoming a seller on Amazon or eBay, becoming a network marketer, trading cryptocurrencies or any other online business.

Only then should you look for a mentor or coach for that line of business.

If you do it the other way round, you could end up learning a business you don't actually like or enjoy.

Do searches online for things like "affiliate marketing mentor", "Amazon Seller Course" and so on, and see who's created courses and training programs.

Remember that any testimonials you read on their sales pages are all going to be positive because no coach or mentor is going to publish negative comments about themselves or what they offer.

That doesn't mean the testimonials are inaccurate or false (which would be against FTC guidelines), just that they're selective or positively biased.

All businesses do this because they want to convince people that they're offering the best solution for their prospective customers.

After you've found some mentors and coaches, do searches on them and see what people have to say about them on other, independent sites. The good ones will almost always be spoken about in positive ways. Not all coaches and mentors will suit all people, so there will be some who will ultimately be disappointed because a training program wasn't a good fit for them.

This is where you you have to use your own judgement.

A coach and a mentor are not the same thing.

A coach only teaches you what's in their program and hopefully provides support for it. Your success comes down to your own efforts in following what's being taught. It you fail, the blame is often laid at your feet because you didn't try hard enough.

A mentor is interested in you and your success. They will be more like a drill sergeant rather than a friend. They will push you beyond your comfort zone and they will engage with you one-on-one when you have questions. If their training isn't working for you, they'll often ask their students if they're having similar difficulties and will change and update the training as a result. This doesn't typically happen with coaches (at least in my experience). A mentor will expect you to do the work they tell you to do and will call you out when you don't do it. A coach leaves everything up to you.

Mentors are there there to massage your ego or make you feel good if things aren't working for you. But they will work with you to overcome your obstacles. They want your commitment just as you want theirs.

If you're looking for an easy ride, then pick a coach. The better ones will offer some mentorship aspects.

But if you're serious about building an online business, pick a mentor. They will push you outside your comfort zone. Nobody got rich staying inside their comfort zone. It's only when we push (or are pushed) outside that boundary that we grow as people whether that personally or professionally.

Definitely I would recommend that you start to get your feet wet.

Choose what direction you want to take...

Whether it's CPA, FBA, dropshipping, etc...study the different options and then stick to the one that you would want to go after.

Stick only to that ONE direction and do not deviate.

By doing this you will gain knowledge and eventually you will meet people that are doing the same as you are, people that can provide some guidance and help.

Remember the saying, "Jack of all trades, master of none."

Do not become a jack of all trades.

BT, Warrior and Google seem like good starting points for mentoring. Mentors or coaches work fine. But find someone who seems knowledgeable and compassionate. Hello, if you are seeking a mentor or coach, there are probably some differences between the pair but basically they are the same. A mentor and coach will teach you successful routes to take in your mission to find financial freedom as an online entrepreneur. There are many different avenues you can take for this but it depends entirely on how much work you are prepared to put in yourself.



Are thinking of a full time career or as a part time income or as a hobby? is it to make money or is it to create connections with like minded gurus or pros?


Affiliate Marketing is a very rewarding career if you take action!

I think you are wasting your time.
Mentors and coaches will take zero interest in you and are only after taking your cash.
They won't chase you or even ask how you are getting on, you will need to chase them.
I can name half a dozen here.
All the advice you can find either here or by watching YouTube videos.
Nobody should need to pay someone ridiculous amounts to state the obvious.

While I agree that there are a fair share of people just out to take your money, there are some great coaches and mentors.

While I absolutely love this forum, there are some things that aren't normally shared on public forums or avenues.

Finding a Coach or Mentor is a bit like shopping for shoes... Sometimes you see a pair you like, you search for something better and go back to that first pair. sometimes it's a perfect fit and sometimes not.

Either way, when you find that coach and it's a good fit, you'll never want to take them off!
