What Sort of Backlinks? ...

Hi everyone,

I'm new to all this and have a question regarding backlinks.

We're all aware that backlinks are essential for ranking in Google. Likewise we're also aware that the quality of the link(s) are more critical compared to the quantity.

My question is, are backlinks from social media and similar venues important?

For instance, if I'm promoting my website on Quora, FB, Medium, Reddit, etc, would these links count to ranking my website?

Thanks in advance and have a lovely day!

I can understand your query - it's a very important question for all online business owners. A backlink is important for a true website but you have to find a bunch of quality backlinks that's may come from any social media platform or may come from guest posts etc. Please make sure to check the site's spam score before you submit there for your website. And always use quality content that is grammatically error-free and active voice should be less in the content. So you will get a good result for your online business.

    Thanks

But if you are dealing with Adsense , google they don't say like traffic from Social media. Is Organic traffic the No 1 thing to look for.

Don't mention about Adsense stuff, even come others if you are site owner , Organic traffic is the traffic you aim for

Go to one of those sites, select the text you're using as link anchor, right click, view selection source.

Read the code. If this is there: rel=nofollow, your link is not useful for SEO (can still be useful from a traffic-point of view).

Social media sites let you create nofollow links, so not good from an sEO point of view.

No Facebook doesn't link to sites however individual profiles and pages do .

You want quality backlinks not low quality links because that will definitely hurt your site in the rankings and I wouldn't advise you to buy any either.

Social media site actually no-follow links so it will not be counted as a quality backlink that can boost your site ranking. But, social media can help to bring social signals to your site content. Your followers may share your blog content and link back to your site.

Unless you run paid traffic and send a bunch of visitors to your site, then Google will boost your site since you have sent so many visitors to your site. This is what I see from other people running a ton of traffics through Facebook ads to their eCommerce site. Your site can be boosted also organically Google SERP.

Social media "backlinks" don't have the direct, impact on ranking as other types of links do. But, social media backlinks presents an audience that could benefit a site. Links can be accessed via clicking typically present on newsfeeds.

Hello Matt - Yes you are right - not all links are equal.

What you'd ideally want are links from high domain authority sites pointing to you. Check out the MozBar to quickly scope what is the domain authority of different platforms.

Social media links mostly would come with a no-follow setting. While it does not help boost authority it does help in bringing traffic that in turn helps. Also google for "link profile". Just cos a site gives no-follow links does not mean that it is not useful.

Finally, if your site has been around a bit you'd also need to watch out for spammy sites linking to you. The Google Search Console can help you review such links and weed them out.
