Boring e-mails?

Welcome to the forum. This is a really vague question. Difficult to provide any reasonable answers without knowing what your emails are about.

Maybe your emails have little to no graphics. Or you're using Times New Roman as font.

What kind of niche are you in? Without knowing this, we can't really help you much dude. What do you mean by "freshing up"? Content-wise, or the e-mail template?

I can say the same about my emails. Boring stuffs.

So, what bores you about your own emails?



Really, analyze them, figure out what bores you about them, remove it. Replace it with something that doesn't bore you.


Really, it's that simple. You're the one who finds them boring. You ought to be able to say why and fix that.

There's no one-size-fits-all solution here, but I can tell you how we came up with what I think are compelling emails. It's not rocket science, it just takes a fair bit of work. (But I find a lot of business is like that.)

When we were launching our own email newsletter, I did a bunch of research to find some of the best email newsletters out there and I subscribed to them. Naturally, I tried to find newsletters covering similar topics as ours, but I didn't limit myself to those -- I subscribed to everything from marketing-focused emails to more content-focused emails.

After getting at least a few sample messages from each, we looked at everything from the design to the frequency to the actual types of content they had in order to develop a voice, look and feel that was right for our website and that would appeal to our subscribers.

My guess is that the actual solutions we came up with for our email marketing strategy won't necessarily work for you. But I do think that with a similar process to ours you can hopefully figure out a way to write, present and deliver effective emails to your own customers.

P.S. We used the same approach when designing our website, developing our social media strategy, etc., etc., etc. While asking people on a forum for advice can be helpful, I find it's often even better to study and learn from what the best, most successful businesses are actually doing in the wild.

I just read in a previous thread how you can fresh-up your emails. You can do story telling in your emails and find your style how to do it. I guess, your emails will not be so boring then)

And subscribe to email lists of powerful email marketera like Ben Settle or Matt Back.

Think about what's happening in your niche now: set up GOOGLE ALERTS with keywords related to your niche and use those elements as a hook for your pitch, commenting and givin advice.

You can send different types of topics, learning materials etc in emails and images too.

A very simple way is to tell stories and use analogies.

If you notice most speakers have few core teachings they just keep telling the same stuff over and over again, but they use analogies and stories.

Now stories can be further classified as:
1. Personal stories
2. Parables
3. Fables

If you notice Gary vaynerchuck, he keeps talking about the same stuff like Empathy, and not caring about what other people think, but he keeps coming up with new angles.

Let's face it. Most emails are boring. That's just the
way it is.

Perhaps you could hire somebody to write some of
your autoresponder emails for you, this way things
won't be so monotonous since the writing style will
be different and maybe it will be more lively.

You could inject some humor into your emails with
tasteful jokes. The jokes should pertain to whatever
you are promoting.

You could also use some interesting and obscure
cliffhanger questions that will leave your readers
pondering what the answer is but you don't provide
the answer until the next email. Kind of like they do
on some TV shows to keep you glued to the sofa
through the commercial break.

Something like this:

"Do you know the answer to this fascinating question?
Who made more money selling popcorn/lipstick/soap
than anyone else in the history of the world?"

"Don't miss our next email for the surprising answer!"

These questions should be related to the topic of the
emails as well.

Try to think outside the box to come up with things
that you would like to read about in an email.

I think this is why it's important that you properly segment your email list.

Our email topic is boring but a lot of people subscribe to it because they know what kind of information they can expect from our newsletters. They know it comes with tips and resources to help them with their business. Yes, we do a lot of storytelling in our emails but you also have to make sure that the people on your email list really want to be there.

Find someone, or even employ someone to write them for you. A quick Google throws up many professional copywriters, who should be able to turn your prose into readable copy.

Go out and do something exciting...

It is important to provide your list with information that's relevant, useful, and enjoyable.

Relevant and useful information is that which relates directly to their niche, and what they can readily apply to improve their business. The content doesn't always have to be your own but can also be in the form of linking to someone else's article or video.

Enjoyable: What I've found to be quite beneficial is the inclusion of various aspects of my personal life in the monthly newsletter I send out: I'm planting a vegetable garden in my back yard, taking flying lessons, interesting movies I saw, a bad experience I had at the shopping mall, and so on. Where it's applicable, keep them updated on your progress.

The last strategy will result in the building of a bond between your list and you. They will soon begin to feel in their hearts and spirits that they know you in a near personal way and begin to trust you.

You should implement my advice according to the nature and structure of your business, and rest assured that it is sound.

Please note that I'm not implying that you write to your list once every month, as you should do it not less than once per week.

I think you need to use various email signature creator apps. A decent graphic won't hurt and make it better

Glad you realize something needs to be changed. I would say find creative ways to connect with your post.

For example :send your list an invite to be apart of a contest

Or

Send them an invite for free coaching 1 on 1

Or


Give them an ebook or a chance to be host or guest with you .

My point is that you should be creative.

You must talk about "Solutions" ....

Which resource does your reader need? What are you doing? Share your experience in your market

Think to redirect or forward your email into whatsapp ,you can google it to do in simple way

I've been busy nowadays, but I am here again, and as I read some of your responses,
I think that storytelling is great thing, but maybe 2-3 times a week or so, because I think it's near impossible to throw every day one story.

And also,

I am in the weight loss niche,

and I think that my emails are little bit hard to change because I still sort of need to write same things over and over.

Explain why the other products aren't working, talk about that, and come up with my product as a solution, right?

But again thank you a lot for answering, and I will definitely do things like:

Change the look of the text, add some graphics, and tell stories more often,

which I haven't had in my emails.

Talk about any interesting topics and connect them to your product.

The new James Bond movie + traffic generation.
Something trending + your niche.
A story from your past + your product.
etc...

Definitely, it all depens on your niche. I'm in the education niche, and I see they don't like long e-mails, and not too much of a story-telling angle,...

So, you have to try and innovate many things (subjects, content, cta, images...)


And as one of the fellow members stated, go sign up in your competitor's newsletter and model what they do .

For inspiration have a look at some of the most successful email marketers
and copy some of their tactics.

Marketers such as Matt Bacak, Michael Cheney, Jay-Kay Dowdall, Tony Shepherd
are a few which come to mind. Some of the marketers also publish courses on
their methods.

Entertainment is an important aspect of good email marketers.
Being funny and giving a glimpse into their own lives as Gary suggests above
to prove that you are an ordinary human. People are interested in how your new
garden is coming along, successes and trials included.

Look at the email marketers whose emails you open regulalry.
Why do you open them?

Often there is a variety of style and value and personalty that makes them compulsive.
Study all of this and you will improve.

If you want to come out of boring email, it's all about story telling.

Just tell stories, in your emails you want to keep your customers interest and attention from one email to the other, you wont get it right straight away but it will take some time to work on.

The book above is a quality book when it comes to email marketing and how to be able to tell stories.

Try adding a touch of Humor to your emails. It helps in boosting the open rates and click through rate as well.

If the content you're writing is about a topic you're an expert in - or one which you really enjoy, your emails don't have to be boring. Just find that spark in you that made you choose that niche and bring it out in form of content which really solves the problems of your subscribers.


You can spice up your emails by including some light, humorous, unrelated content once in a while, especially in the introduction part of the email. This breaks the ice and makes the subscriber read on.


After all, it's about them

I tried telling a story through my mails. Every mail has its own story people can relate with and they find it interesting

I remember I opted in to a workout program once. The guy that sent the emails had the most capturing headlines. For example, melt fat while you sleep, this one food causes you to age faster, etc. In my opinion if you can get people in with the headline and provide pretty good content to back it up. This will work wonders.

Hi, probably its time to hire a professional sales letter copywriter to avoid boring stuff in your emails.

I guess you may be experiencing fatigue - the mind getting bored after doing (or saying) the same thing repeatedly all over and over.

If that's the case, I've been there too.

I was very passionate about various topics for years. I believed strongly in them. Used the methods and lived by them. Even came up with tools or systems to make them better. Obviously, I was also a genuine, fiery maverick for those ideas. I developed hundreds of pitches from every thinkable angle.

But after years "preaching" the same stuff. I got tired of my own pitches. It's part of life. If the topic is narrow, it's time to look for new horizon - it may be that you've said all that there is to say. If it's not, it may be good to see what some other new entrants have to say about the topic (to get a fresh view). What I did was unsubscribe from some of my favourite gurus (for clarity), create some new angles by questioning the conventional, integrate A.I., shorten the processes, and after that share it to your readers.

PS: While you may feel that you're repeating yourself, your audience may not. Especially if they include new subscribers, subscribers that have "dementia" (those that never remember what you say), subscribers that are still passionate about the topic.

I like subscribing to other newsletters from sites I like and seeing how they make new emails.

Normally, I adopt real life representations of whatever idea I intend to pass with catchy topics.

For instance, in my last email, I was trying to promote a newsletter that can help someone achieve a goal quick. As such, I thought about a story that relates to the theme, and came up with path of a drunken sailor. This is a catchy topic.

Now that you've caught their interest, build on the topic and relative it whatever idea you want to pass

From my experience, I'm always trying to change the style of my emails, like create catchy topic of the letter and a story to the main part of the letter
Sometimes it's good to stay straight and short, it depends on your services or products that you promote and who are your audience

Not sure what your emails

No matter what niche, just be yourself! Our subscribers want to know who we are...put a personality to a name to a face.

Tell your list about yourself, your experiences, random shareable tidbits of info! Tell a joke, tell them whats a funny memory, share insights about who you are. Relate offers to your life, your community, world news. Gifs, animation, videos. It doesnt always have to be text only format!

Most importantly...have fun with it. It's a conversation really....where you don't have to tell the other person to shush...or just listen! You get to dominate it! LOL...just kidding. Think of it as a conversation, and hopefully it flows from there.

5. Ask readers for input

Those are just a few things I can think of that might help you.

Could be you're too close it. You know your product-line and/or services so well you maybe forgetting what it's like for someone coming to it for the first time. Perhaps you need to bring in another writer to write the material. This would help bring a new perspective to your marketing emails.
