I'm sure you've seen them too. I'm talking about all those ad headlines that scream out such ridiculous claims as...
  • Make Money Fast!
  • Get Rich Quick!!
  • This is not a scam!!!
  • Hundreds waiting to buy from you right now!!!!
  • I made $5,827 in just 3 days!!!!!
My own personal incontrovertible law of marketing states: The more exclamation marks in the sentence, the bigger the scam.

We're exceedingly fortunate that exclamation marks aren't a non-renewable resource.

What I don't understand is whether or not anybody falls for this nonsense. It's not hard to imagine some desperate affiliate hoping to gouge a few bucks from such scams, but how about customers?

Would you buy anything from an ad with a headline like those above? Do you know anybody that would?

If not, why do such clumsy attempts to persuade exist? I can only assume there is a large pool of very stupid people out there ready, willing and able to believe anything.

In which case, God help us all.
